We are thinking about employing someone but we want to create a job role for him.
I am looking for a title more than anything, eventually he could become Ops Director, but seeing as that is my role, he won't be getting that title!
The role will consist of:
Develop relationships with existing suppliers as well as sourcing new key supplier partners for products and transport.
Analysing existing business procedures and seek improvements across all processes.
Develop business continuity processes.
Manage internal sales personnel and processes.
Work with sales director on appropriate major accounts using personal contacts.
So what do you reckon? What would be a good job title? The pay is quite good as he is a good guy, so I guess that I am looking for something better than "business manager" which is the best we have at the moment!
TIA

I think eventually, he could fufill a MD role providing that he was in the office enough (he lives 200 miles away - but we have a house he can use during the week for a couple of nights a week).
But, a title for now? Operations Director is out, see above, as I am Operations Director elect, so there is under no circumstances that I would allow that, unless I took on the MD role ... now that is food for thought.
I am Operations Manager, so he can't have that when he joins, but argh, frustrating ... what do we offer?
Business Continuity Manager?

business development manager?
at the end of the day, if he enjoys the job & the pay is alright, the title matters little.
The problem is that we can't expect someone to come in who has extensive experience within the industry, at both operations, project and sales manager level, including negogiation contracts with hauliers for a truck every 30 minutes, creation of new rail link from Liverpool to Scotland.at the end of the day, if he enjoys the job & the pay is alright, the title matters little.
BDM is not enough for someone of his caliber. We are approaching him, not the other way around!
How about "account manager"? (Business account manager)
No need to make it fancy.. he will only want more money!!..
When i have these sales reps etc etc come to us, and see a title like "south commerical operations business account tech director" i am thinking.. hmm what a plank!..
Keep it simple!

The only problem with that is that we already have a Sales Director and UK Sales Manager. Business Account Manager implies a sales role, whereas his role is more Operations / General Management. No need to make it fancy.. he will only want more money!!..

Senior Operations Manager
My biz card used to be "Director of Global Operations", didn't quite manage to go global though.
lol, I know that feeling. The only issue with using the Operations Line is that I am acting Ops Director elect, but don't want to propose that I am above him, which in title I will be.My biz card used to be "Director of Global Operations", didn't quite manage to go global though.
Oh this is to confusing.

croxsons - can't you just change your own job title? Instead of looking at the problem as to decide his job title, decide both yours and his at the same time relevant to your relative positions within the company.
This is true, but a) I have no idea what title I would have ... Ops Director best describes my role. and b) just about in every trade journal, directory, the Ops Director / Manager is down as the main contact. I wouldn't want him to be bothered by marketing calls, which I seem to field most of the time.JamieBeeston said:

Failing that you could make something up that is very nebulous and meaningless.
sure.. like any of the following followed by Manager/Director:Quality
Engineering
Projects
Programme
Business
CRM

Ok CRM & Business I agree but what's wrong with the others?
