The most beautiful female singing voice

[V8S]

I expect this thread to die but here goes...

Just been listening to Within Temptation, a Scandinavian band in the style of Evanescence (for example) - big, powerful, string-heavy gothic metal with female vocals.

Some of the vocals on it sum up the female vocal range, sung sweetly and so feminine; she has a simply beautiful voice.

But I'm sure she's probably not the best, so I'm opening up to nominations.

So... which female singer in any style has a voice that perfectly encapsulates femininity? That makes you want to take her home to your mother and you think: "ah, now I could easily come home to that each night!"

Within temptation: CRAP

Regina Spektor?

Aretha.

She was put on this planet to sing.

Has the full range from 'come to bed' all the way through 'your pissed up mates have soiled the sheets'

For me, either Sarah McLachan or Ellen McLain.

Julianne Regan

[Eric Mc]

Ella Fitzgerald

Karen Carpenter

Doris Day (when not singing silly ditties)

whigfield

Eva Cassidy had a great voice.

Surely Abba rank up there for you?

KT Tunstall

I just want to kidnap her and lock her in my basement for a daily/hourly rodgering session*

*Not a serious threat. I would though.

Overated in my opinion - only sold becuse she died before she had really "made it".

I also like voices along the lines of Judith Durham (The Seekers), Maddie Prior (Steeleye Span) and Mary Black.

Minnie Ripperton

Another vote for Sarah McLachlan. Absolutely fantastic voice, especially on Mirrorball.

Billie Holiday. Vocal treacle.
