Just got my Tuscan in February - chuffed to bits.

Yesterday, I opened the door, the driver's window went down halfway (as it's supposed to) then didn't go back up when I closed the door again.

The window goes all the way down ok and back up but only halfway (the exact position it goes to when opening the door).

I've tried locking up the car with the alarm, which usually closes any open windows, but the driver's window stays put. What's more, I've discovered that even with the alarm on and the car all locked up, the drivers door can be opened from under the mirror (the boot and passenger's door both lock)!

I wouldn't normally mind, since my window leaks (sorry, gushes!) in the rain anyway, but I'm getting hassle from the police and car park attendants who say that I'm encouraging criminals. I'm having to keep answering the door to helpful neighbours too.

It's a 2000 Tuscan with the door buttons on either side of the stereo but the window dials can sometimes open the door. The car might think that the door is always open and is refusing to let the window up any further.

I don't want to take it to a local auto-electrician as the garages here are clueless about tvrs. Also, I don't really want to have to take it to the tvr specialists up here because it's miles away and usually costs a fortune (although the service and workmanship is fantastic) and it means one or two days off work to take it there and bring it back. This might be my only option, though.

Any helps at all would be brilliant.

Cheers,
Ed

It's the little electronic circuit thingy in the door (sorry to get technical), they get wet/damp and go tits up. Take it to a TVR garage as they “all do that sir”, and they will know exactly what to do to solve your problem.

Yeah, the electrics must be wet and went tits up (all these technical terms...)

Another neighbour at the door.

Had similar problem with mine , as earlier replies suggest it coulld be the window encoder that has lost the plot ( to be found by the window motor inside the door card , try making sure this isn`t damp ), or take the cover off the door latch and make sure the microswitch isn`t sticking and making the car think the door is open , therefore not allowing your window return to the fully up position . If the encoder is the problem and you are handy with a soldering iron it is very easy to replace and not expensive .
Hope this helps

Not sure about that mate, the encoder is joined to the main door loom via a 3-pin (if memory serves..) male & female connector - no soldering needed (unless you mean re-soldering the existing joints in the encoder PCB?)

It is a pretty easy job to replace as has already been said.

Cool - thanks for all you advice, guys.

The Neighbour Situation got out of hand so I've got a plastic bag (looks very classy on the Tuscan) covering the window which at least lets them know that I know the window's not up.

Does anyone have any idea, would local, bog standard auto-electricians know how to replace/fix the stuff you've suggested in all your posts ie. the little damp thing in the door? Or is this something a TVR specialist is better handling?

I'll go with the majority vote cos my arcensorede was soaking arriving at my meeting today thanks to the puddle in the seat so I need to get it fixed one way or the other.

Other than that, I'm LOVING it! Even a trip to the supermarket is thrilling!

Hi, the same thing happened with my car and it was the little metal arm on the micro switch behind the chrome lock plate that was to blame. Take the plate off and check the arm in moving properly, mine needed a bit of adjustment to make it work and its been ok for a year now. Also make sure the micro switch hasn't broken or moved. Its worth checking before you start spending money on it.

Good news - my window's no longer stuck halfway down! Bad news is, it's stuck all the way down now.

Jumped in the Tuscan on Thursday, turned the key, the dashboard began ticking loudly and it wouldn't start. The window then went all the way down and won't come up at all.

Called the TVR people and they said that a low battery will cause the electrics to go mental and that I should trickle charge it. After a weekend charging it's starting again but the window is fully down all the time now.

I'm gonna take it to the experts this weekend.

Someone laughingly called me a wreckless sports car owner cos he thought I didn't care about leaving my car in a car park with the window all the way down. Where did I put my plasic bag again...?

Hi
don't know if you've tried this but it may be worth a go!
I had a similar problem with my drivers side window, it would go down when I opened the door but would only go part way up after i closed the door. It did however go all the way up when I locked the car!
While playing around with the alarm(looking to see if my siren was bust) I noticed that when you lock the car if you keep your thumb on the button for a while longer the car locks as normal but the indicators flash a few extra times, then after about 30 secs they flash once and the car unlocks itself. I then found that the window was working properly again.
Maybe this is some sort of sync or reset.
It could be that simple, you never know!! then again it's a tvr so it's probably nothing to do with itwobble
hope you get it sorted.

Thanks, mate! I'm on my way out to try it! Fingers crossed. Standby...

No luck, worth a try, though.

I did wonder if there was some kind of master reset button somewhere. That's usually my solution for broken stuff - switch it off and back on again.

have you tried unscrewing the chrome plate on the door jam and checking the switch is working and secure. I had to tighten up the allen key bolts under the chrome plate when I had this problem

Just a thought, have you tried unplugging the ECU for ten minutes then reconnect, this tends to reset electricals back to default(the ECU is in the drivers footwell)
good luck
