Hi,

My 2001 E39 M5 has the hi-fi audio option (UK model, not DSP - item one in the photo here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=DE92... however i'm not really that impressed with the audio. The Sony Sound-on-Top amplifier I had fitted to the stock head unit on my E39 530i gave better results.

I therefore want to bypass/remove the hi-fi audio amp and fit the SOT amp (I have the loom etc required with the quadlock plus).

I've not had time to have a detailed look yet, but I had hoped that I could just unplug that loom that goes in and out of the hi-fi amp and plug them together thus bypassing it, however it doesn't look as easy as this. Has anyone here removed the amp, and if so how did you do it?

Is there a small loom or connector that can be used?

Failing that is there somewhere i can easily plug in the sound on top *after* the hi-fi amp (which should be fine, as it's designed to run with speaker level outputs from head units).

Thanks for any help.

Peter.

Brother,

I expect M5 board will have an answer for you on this topic a lot quicker as it regularly comes up. I would be suprised if there is an easy switch. Sadly I am in the same position as you frown

I've put a post up there too, just wanted to make sure I had the widest audience possible wink

Worse case I guess I just need to make a small loom to join the two connectors that otherwise go into the OEM amp...
