Not wanting to name any names but ive had a not very good quality service today.

But heres the story

Was quoted 600 quid but as it needed discs all round and an inspection it cost me including vat over 1100 squid

On top of that it was NOT filled with the correct amount of oil AGAIN (2nd time this has happened.)well it was half way between the min and max, so they added half a litre.

Then i check the service book and they put in there my car had 23k MORE than it does... Thus RUINING my service book and making it look tatty and as if the cars been clocked.

So once AGAIN i feel let down by BMW.

Oh yeah i also asked to keep my old brake discs as i honestly cant see them being worn out already. So will get them independantly checked.

What can/shall i do next?

If it is the main/suppling dealer you could ask for a new service book to be written out. Or get a print out with the corrected milage so you can back up the milage in the book.
How many miles has the car done? rear discs even with some sprirted driving should easily last at leat 50k miles.
Im not sure how BMW MD do it. The lip on the disc is normally significant before they need doing but maybe they have adopted the attitiude that they may not last you until your next service (15k miles?) so get them changed now.
Discs and pads are the easilest thing in the world to change. It is at the most a couple of allen key bolts or nuts. I would do them yourself in the future.

Last week I bought a 2 yr old 330i. Naturally I checked out a few at BMW dealerships up and down the country before selecting the car I wanted. I discovered to my horror that even when I was walking in there with 20k to spend I didn't always get good service. At one garage (lets just say a few miles south of Leeds) I was sat waiting almost an hour before I spoke to the salesman who I had called previously and booked an appointment with. Some dealerships were reluctant to take me out for a test drive and one was appaulingly stuck up. In the end I bought my car from a salesman who couldn't have been more helpful at Coopers in Surrey! I'll certainly be trying out their service facilities when the time comes.

Are BMW becoming the new Mercedes? I hope not

Well I have yet to experience thier service dept, but the sales experience my wife and I recently had when we bought our 535d M Sport from Coopers BMW in Norwich was second to none.

Really first class stuff.

Food for thought this.

I have just driven back from Marbella and while down there took my 740 into BMW Malaga to replace a dodgy locking wheel nut.

Fantastic modern showroom/service area (also a Ferrari dealer) and excellent service. What amazed me was the fact that they only charge 68 Euros an hour labour including VAT(about £56).

The service reception was very well organised. Its a big area all under cover with a number of workstations spaced out each with its own sunken ramp. At your appointment time you drive the car to the relevant station and the service receptionist (all techy chaps in overalls) checks in the car confirming the work required.

Whilst this is being done another chap covers the seat, steering wheel and floormats.

The receptionist then raises the car on the ramp to inspect underneath, discs etc with you.

Once booking in is complete the car is then driven out the other end of the reception area to the workshops by another chap.

If you have requested a hire car it's brought to the reception desk for you to inspect and complete the paperwork.

Compare this to £120 plus VAT labour at my local BMW dealer where the service is arguably poorer, you can never park and the service receptionists really couldn't give two hoots.

I've now given up with my local Sussex dealer for both the BMW and the Mini and I've found a good indie in Shoreham-by-sea who used to be a John Cooper engineer and builds the Mini Challenge cars.

Having said that, my niece-in-law-to-be was impressed with Coopers of Tunbridge Wells, who didn't treat her like dirt.

Coopers in Banstead have always been top notch for us, even though we've only bought one out of the twelve BMs that we have owned from them. Never had a reason to complain about any of their work, never been a query on any warranty work. They've even done warranty work when we didn't know it was required.

So shall i ''grab a set of bks'' as it were, write a firm latter stating i want a new service book and it all legitmately stamped up correctly including the suppling dealers stamp even though it was a different dealer?

you'll end up with 'duplicate' stamped all over it

don't bother as invoices are better than stamps in a book which can be easily forged

I changed the front and rear discs and pads on my 51 plate E39 5 Series last year.
IIRC the parts cost me just over £300. So, £500 at a dealers doesn't seem that excessive.
