i think i asked this a while back but never got an answer so as i've got mine going in for the replacement disk and pad lottery draw next week, i thought i would check again;

what should happen when i press the boot release button in the glovebox or on my remote ?

on mine the boot does not open !!! i have to pull it up (the boot) and press the button at the same time and yes, before someone says it, i can't do that with the one in the glove box, i'm not mr tickle

you can hear the mechanism making a noise but unless you pull the boot lid just at the right moment you can't open it ! any idea chaps ?

I'm sure i read all you have to do is spin up the bump stops as they flatten out over time. The "bounce" in them provides the spring effect, popping the boot up and free from the catch.
I did this on mine and has solved the problem.

That's correct behaviour.

You can adjust the bump stops in the boot lid and sometimes it'll make the boot spring up but be aware that doing that can also make it hard to shut properly.

Yep, just wind out the bumpstops a bit. That should sort it out (for a while).

On mine, the striker plate came loose so I had to adjust it and tighten it back up. Worth checking..

bump stops being the black bits yes i assume ? the bloody catch i.e the bit in the sill of the car fell off well came loose and was flapping around so i couldn't shut the boot the other day so it seems to go from one extreme to the other

I had the same problem on my HSV, I was not able to open the boot unless I lifted it when I pressed the button on the remote. I found that the gas struts were broken, once I got some new ones and fitted them the boot popped up again.

On the flip side of this, how is the boot supposed to shut? Normally you have to give a boot a little bit of a slam to shut it because they are quite springy, but on my 'ro if you don't gently let the boot down with your hand, then as soon as it goes past the point where the boot wont stay up by itself (basically as soon as you start moving it down from the vertical open position) then it slams down shut as if there is no resistance holding it up.

It's caught quite a few people out when they have wanted to put stuff in the boot. They pull it down expecting it to need a push to shut, but suddenly the boot drops out of there hands and slams hard shut.

Has this happened recently or has your boot always been the same? My struts gave up after a warm spell of weather.

I bought the ro from Greens late feb, and it's always been like it. As it's the first one I've owned, I didn't know if it was meant to be like that. Is that a no then? is it meant to springy?

Edit: Just read you previous post. Sounds like the gas struts then? Warranty job? will soon find out. It's going in next Thursday to check the suspension and poly bushes.

Mine shuts in an identical fashion to yours, seems normal to me.. Don't think there are any gas struts, just springs..

The car you bought has the optional spoiler, which adds weight. I dont think the spoiler kits came with uprated struts I'm afraid.

Mines always been sort of like that.
Press once to release the boot lid and then open when you like afterwards.
I don't have to hold the plipper button down at the same time.

thank you. mine is definitely a case of press, wait for the right moment, then try and open it before the whirry noise stops. then if it fails try pressing again and repeat opening procedure. definitely no way the release button in the glove box is ever going to be any good for me !!! unless i shout at the passenger or have a walkie talkie.

I would say definitely a problem then. Even with with my self slamming springless boot, it still opens when I press the glove box button. I've leant over and opened it for passengers putting stuff in my boot. Press it, wait for whiring to stop, then open. If you have to pull it up whilst whiring to get it to open, then I would say there is a problem.

Thanks for the reply Brian. I've checked it whilst out today and it does have a bit of bounce to it, but very little. It could well be the weight of the spoiler. I'll just warn people to catch it as it comes down. I'm already used to it

Yeah, and also don't forget the emergency pull tab under the rear passenger seat head rest (drivers side!)
