I bought one! (Z4)

Picked it up yesterday - very pleased with it. I keep looking at the clock at work waiting to the time to go home and drive it again.

It's a 53 plate, grey, 3.0, manual.

I need to expand the hi-fi system beyond a single CD. What do you guys recommend - CD changer, ipod dock, or other?

With the iPod docks, can the music be control direclty from the hi-fi controls (rather than fiddling around with the iPod itself)? Are the docks cheaps and easy to install?

Congratulations. I've had mine for two years now and still love driving it.


I'd suggest going down the iPod route rather than cd changer. I got a Denison link, it was £99 and took 10 minutes to fit, I didn't use a bracket as I've put the connection in the glove box so the iPod is always hidden. The standard BMW radio/CD in my car displays Artist/Title information. The buttons 1-5 allow quick selection of the first 5 playlists on the iPod, button 6 allows you to scroll through either artists or albums and select whatever is on the iPod.

i agree with the ipod route. As for upgrading the OE headunit the options are negligable. If you have sat nav you're stuffed big time cos the display is on the screen. And the HU is on the digital bus. The options seem to be fitting a base amp/speaker combo under a seat (tapping into OE speaker output), repacing the 6 speakers isn't favoured and the wiring isn't there to retrofit the top end Amp and 10 speakers. I had the Amp, 10 speakers and DSP in my previous Z4 and basic Business/Sat NAv in this one. The sound isn't that different - the road, engine, exhaust, wind noises drown out any fidelity in either system and the ipod source isn't that good, the 6CD is better. In short this is the first car I haven't bothered upgrading.

This link disables/replaces the 6CD if you have it fitted - unplug 6CD, plug in Denison.

I am looking at a Z4 (2005 model) as well. 3.0, auto. What do I have to look at? Any problems with these cars? Do they have a chain or a cam belt? Do they all come with run flats?

Cam Chain
All apart from M come with RFT's
Roof operation is a known issue, it twists out of shape.
Just the normal, get in, play with everything. All knobs, switches etc etc
Try and buy a sport model, the 3.0 sport is an excellent car!
