Would the 4dr M3 tempt you instead of the coupe?
Discussion
I drove the 4 door a couple of days ago and although I like the more sporting look of the coupe, the extra doors and amazing amount of rear leg room would be very useful, as I have 3 kids, plus once you are in the driving seat there is no difference that I can tell.
It does look like any other BMW 3 to the uninitiated so you could have some fun there.
So why is the saloon £1500 cheaper than the coupe? I would have thought that the extra doors would cost more. Are there other differences?

The only other M3 to have 4 doors was the E36. Although they made fewer it was none more desirable, even more so now.
This could be down to the fact that the E36 M3 received a very luke warm reception - bearing in mind its heritage was the E30 - the sort of (unjustified) welcome the current M3 has also received.

they did actually do an e46 m3 4 door but only on the continent, the 4 door in my opinion is the one to go for but they may also be doing a touring which would be good,i work for bmw and get the see the new models alot earlier than most people including the new x6 which is also going to be a big seller i reckon, twin turbo v8 with the turbos mounted near the top of the engine side by side(sorry bit off topic)

Less desirable, not as good looking, not as much of a 'sports car' coupe. Basically it's about image and depreciation, which the saloon will do alot quicker than the coupe. It does look like any other BMW 3 to the uninitiated so you could have some fun there.

History tells us M3 saloon value's sink faster than Miss surrey in a swimming pool.
The estate however, now thats interesting
Absolutely! My M3 went last week and I miss it hugely but have a Touring coming. Better looking than Coupe or Saloon IMHO. The estate however, now thats interesting

Oh, and if there's no carbon roof I'll be able to have it in mean and moody black too - which I couldn't do with my coupe as it seemed a shame to loose the effect of the carbon roof.rassi said:

The E46 M3 was only available as a 2 door (Coupe or Convertible). The E90 or E91 M3 have a bit of "mini M5" about them + added stealth which IMO makes them more interesting.
I went E30>E28 M5>E36 M3 Saloon.
_Really_ wish I'd kept my E36 M3 (& the E30 M3!).
Then again I'm not exactly a youngster so my image needs no assuaging, and I like the incognito look & so called "exclusive M3 Saloon" adverts - but they get a kicking for used prices.
The E90 coupe looks fabulous compared to the saloon, & E46 - so you may want to be wary if depreciation is an issue.

Nice. The M5 touring is uber-cool.
