Spotted this on youtube, surprisingly well matched considering the power (and torque obviously) defecit of the Honda.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yHTfCbDK-Mk&feat...

Couple of things I spotted though.

The s2k is the 2.2 (Is it USDM only of JDM as well?) and is quoted as having 240ps (essentially the same as the 2.0) but it redlines at 8k instead of 9k....

So, whats the point of the capacity increase?

Europe has 2.0l, US and Japan have 2.2l - the US had it first in 2004 and Japan got it during the last facelift (06 I think). It's slightly lower revving but generates more torque and apparently feels noticabley quicker than with the original engine.

eh ? were you watching the same vid as me? - honda won to first corner - 350Z was all over him until eventually passed him, then pulled away?

It was more regards to how close it was considering the power difference......it was actually a joke anyway...oh nevermind...

oops, soz - My Irony filter must have been set to the 'American' setting

power differenrce or no, the 350z is a bit lardy in comparison.

In all the clips I have seen the 350z always beats an S2000. Off the line there probably wouldn't be much in it but when rolling the 350z significantly pulls ahead... not surprising- virtually same weight but 40 odd more hp and importantly a lot more torque. Both top quality cars. Fifth gear rated the 350z as their all time favourite.

Z is a lot heavier that an S. 1540 Kg V 1260 KG iirc. The actual figure (0-60, 1/4 mile and mile and very close, but having owned both, the Z is easier to drive fast and forgives a missed gearchange or wrong gear selection. I liked the chuckability of the S, but the Z wins the handling contest for me. I'm talking about a Z coupe here, and not the convertible - add 100kg for that.

Bit wrong. 2.2 for USDM. 2.0 for rest.

2.0 only for Europe now. The 2.2 went JDM in 2006 (with the DBW).

With all that extra weight? I drove a Z and, engine aside, found it rather leaden - steering lacked feel (yes, the S isn't much better...), pedals seemed oddly-matched, and you could feel the weight. Engine WAS a bit of a monster though...

I felt the same way about S2000 after test driving a VX220....i went for the Z in the end... After spending 13 months pounding up down the M1 in a DC2 Integra Type R with no aircon I was happy to trade some extra KGs for heated leather seats :-)

Lightweight! biggrin

I know what you mean...there's a sliding scale of 'tactility - to - comfort', with Caterhams at the bottom, then Elise/VX, then ITR/old hot-hatches, then 'modern but focused' stuff like the S2000, and then up to BMs and the Z. Just need to decide where you're happy, I guess...

I like torque with a side portion of power and great big helping of comfort. I drive a Z!

The S2000 wasn't for me. It was a good car but I have a motorbike with 20k revs showing on the tacho so can rev the nuts off of that!
