Hi mate,
I bought the same as you last weekend,I too struggled to register it on-line, but found that if you plugged it in to computer it automaticaly finds the registration number. Downloaded the speed camera data which beeps constantly, even on motorways and A roads with no restrictions. As you, I thought these had traffic updates built in, but since found out they have`nt, bit of a con really, as for another tenner you can buy tom tom with everything on it including usa mapping! Also speaker volume is very low, even at 100% and another thing, it does not show mc-donalds in points of interest!!
All in all I am very dissapointed, but unfortunately had hardwired it in my new van before I discovered all this, so cannot take it back. If you have not damaged anything, I would take it back and change it for a tom tom.
Best of luck

Can't comment on the 760 but I have a 660 and on that you can change the way the tones for POIs and Safety cameras work in the Proximity Points part of the menu for one of the following: Single Tone or Continuous - Speed Alerts (beeps all the time you are over the limit) or Continuous - All Alerts.

Not that I eat there if I can help it but the 660 has Mc-Donalds on.

As I say I don't have any experience with the 760 but I can't see it being much different.

Also the voices on the 660. British English is fine for volume. If you select British English-Emily (TTS) however it is a lot quieter.

HTH.

Don't understand the comments about non traffic and the FM transmitter bit, as mine has them both. Are you sure you haven't checked trhough all the menus as the FM needs to be turned on and tuned if you want to use it. Also if your plug that fits in to the cradle from the cigarette lighter has an additional thin wire coming off it with two small suckers, this is the traffic monitoring aerial. My understanding is that if you are using the unit on internal batteries, then the traffic monitoring won't be available as you won't have an aerial attached to pick it up.

Yep inbuilt according to...

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pI...

...the 660 has an ariel that you stick to the screen.

That site says the aerial is integrated, which it is; but it's not 'inbuilt.'

The GPS receiving aerial is built in (as opposed to the 3xx series that had a flip out aerial that also turned the GPS receiver on.) The FM transmitting aerial, for playing your MP3s and receiving spoken directions through your car stereo, is built in. However, the traffic information receiving aerial is part of the power lead that connects to the cradle. The power lead differs between US and European models, as the traffic receiver is built into the cigarette lighter adapter, I believe.

Seems all UK units have the traffic facility.

see here for details

GARMIN 760

Maybe Halfords are stocking GREY market imports? or as the other poster said you must have the unit in its cradle with the thin lead with the rubber suckers connected or the Traffic icon wont even show up on the unit's screen.

If stiil not sure I'd phone Garmin and ask, I have called them in the past and found them to be helpful

Contact GARMIN here

If I remember correctly, the only time the traffic icon appears on the display is if there is a traffic incident on the route you have planned. No route planned = no icon. If there is an incident then tapping on the icon shows the map of your route and the point at section where there is a problem.

Sorry, I wasn't clear, what I meant was the 'Traffic' option in 'Tools' not the little 'Red Triangle' symbols on the map screen that you get if there is a traffic hold-up on your route.

just been to halfrauds and they said i need a seperate lead for the traffic to work, and to be honest the 660 they had on display said on the little card that traffic thingy was built in but it didnt say it on the card for the 760, my opinion on the 660 was it didnt look as good and its over a year old (in design) and the gps thingy sticks out the back, so i'd rather have the lead option, as for the registration i'll call garmin tomoz

I also have a garmin 310d[I think] with traffic updates, via an ariel that sticks on the windscreen, volume is much louder poi includes maccy d`s, in general a superior product, apart from screen size, this is the reason I bought a 760, which to be honest I have now decided is s**t.

Just to confirm the 760 that halfords stock does not contain the traffic module, Took mine back yesterday for refund, The Garmin sites only refers to one 760 model with does have traffic,
Now looking for a replacement on the net with traffic. Just wonder if halfords purchase a lower spec in order to keep the price down etc.
