Hi All,

I'm having to remove the centre console (due to mice) to repair the wiring. Steve's book says that the handbrake needs to be released, else the console wont get over the handle (which is absolutely true of course), by releasing the adjuster in the transmission tunnel.
Has anyone had a go at this? I got under the car yesterday but honestly couldn't see this "adjuster". Would it be just as easy to release the handbrake at the wheels!

Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris.

Adjusters are mounted just forward of the diff, one each side on mine. Could be another in the tunnel but haven’t noticed it.

Yep, same on mine - a '92 pre-cat.
Take off the back drivers side wheel and look for a big whiteish knurled thing deep inside above and in front of the drive shafts (diff).
It will be tight at first but loosens eventually, although you'll feel like you've been loosening for England before it makes any difference.
Count the turns when you loosen it and you can put it back as it was.

i had to do the same when i dismantled my car, dont make the mistake to disconnect the handbrake bowden cable from the rear brakes like you would do in other cars. it is enough to loosen this long white plastic "screwlike " adjuster close to the diff. then you can bring the handbrake grip in upright position. after loosing the screws under the t- part of the middle console you can gently lift/pull it. there is not a lot of space

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your replies. I did pop into Dream Machines and ask. They had a cerbera on t'ramp, so had a look at that one. Yes it's clearly further back than I thought. Have got as far as jacking up rear of tiv but not enough clearance to see yet. Another job for the weekend sir!
Train the mice, don't give me mice, the little bug#*&^s. One was still in the car after a run !!!!! Keeping em out will be the next trick, maybe an isolation tent. Anyone tried steam-cleaning the interior carpets without affecting the fusebox and stuff?

Cheers,
Chris

I just pop the cable out of one of the guides and that was enough to release mine enough to get the console over. Saves firking about with the adjuster.
