I have always fancied renting something special for a weekend and am looking for Midlands based firms who do this - Footballers Drives I am aware of but can anyone recommend others?

There's a place on the Heathcote Industrial Estate in Warwick. Has Ferraris and Lambos IIRC. Not sure of the number but you may be able to find it via Google!

The trouble with all those places, is that they charge you a fortune, yet, if you have any sort of a prang, it could bankrupt you, because the insurance cover is crap and the repair costs monstrous.

Indeed - be very careful and read the small-print thoroughly before signing anything. In addition to the usual eye-watering excess some hire places have a clause that basically says they will charge you for lost hire fees for every day the car is off the road following any accident. Also some of the less scrupulous places have been known to 'invent' damage to the car after you've handed it back and then pocket you excess. There was a fairly decent thread on this in General Gassing a month or so ago.

Be careful who you choose - you may be better going for an all-inclusive track experience day.

Hi Guys

Its not all doom and gloom in the posh car world though, at least I hope not.

Myself and 2 work colleagues have started up a company doing this recently.
Our terms and conditions do not try and "rob" anyone, and I know that because I have not written them yet! We have got a couple of Ferraris, a V8 Vantage, an Exige, and a few other pieces of discerning kit. We want to attract individuals and enthusiasts and operate on more a Car Club basis than one off hire.
We also do track days that members can attend using our cars.
We have just re-worked our pricing and it is pretty keen we reckon. We want to
build a good reputation over a few years and grow the company to get more cars over that time.

You cant really promote websites on PH but the company is named after the famous "flat out if you dare" corner at Spa Francochamps circuit. Based in Shropshire.

Be very happy to help if anyone interested.

Not nessacarily (sp) true. You can put down a deposit at most places to cover the cost of a crash. £2500-£5000 in most cases. This covers you for the event of any major incident or minor incident. Ok it is a lot of money to lose but 99% of hires go smoothly and if you drive the car properly then you have no reason to crash. And if someone hits you it makes no difference.

Or you could just invest in a company then get whatever car you want and rag it round fields and take them off road (which reminds me Matt XJ220 off road pics are now on facebook).

Lol yep. I cant get the pics on to facebook for some reason though. I took it round the fields at the back of my old work had loads of fun cos it was raining and really muddy. Had a few scary moments where i nearly ditched it but we all survived. And the sheep werent injured at all. Lol. When you back from your world tour anyhow? We need to get you driving the Ferrari again so you dont forget how.

Mate, you say the sheep didn't get injured. Why did you have sheep in the Jag when you were driving it? I know your from Lincolnshire, but... rofl

Seriously though I'd be well up for damaging 3rd gear on a supercar again when I return. I'm not sure about driving again so I don't forget how, I was never that good in the first place rofl

As for travelling the world, I'm in Thailand at the moment, relaxing on a tropical island before heading back down to Singapore next weekend then out to Sydney to start working again! Hard life! thumbup

I don't know too many people, outside of lottery winners/premiership footballers, who can afford to spend £5,000, on top of the hire costs!
In general, these hires are not only very expensive, but as Judas said, are very risky, if anything goes wrong.
'Driving properly' doesn't guarantee anything, Will.
(Driving a supercar 'properly' means going very quickly, if we're honest.)
I have heard many experiences of 'posh car hire' and a lot of it makes for scary reading.

I'd never bother. The 'Gallardo experience' at Bruntingthorpe i had was rubbish value.
4, very restricted laps, with someone sitting with you, for £180.
I've just bought a car for £18K which would leave a Gallardo for dead below 120 mph!

I do agree with you about the cost, and wouldnt reccomend spending or risking the money if you couldnt afford to lose it. And I also agree that the "experiences on the track" are also worthless because you cant do what you wan. (Always best to fly round silverstone on your own or racing with the wife) Best thing to do is win the lottery and do what you like when you like.

What have you bought?? Is it a bike?

Hey the sheep were there under their own doing. They were wearing their seatbelts so it was fine. And I "WAS NOT" naked. As for you wrecking the 3rd gear in the Ferrari I think I will give you an F1 gearbox car next time.
When are you gonna be in Sydney?? I might be there end of May if all goes to plan.
