Hi all,

Haven't had much to say recently, as my 85 280 has been running like a dream after much TLC...

But then...

On the way home from work whilst stationary at traffic lights, some dozy *!@*? hit me up the ar*e! Apart from my neck aching like buggery, the offside rear of the car is a real mess. Half the bumper has been ripped clean off, the lights are smashed, the fibreglass is cracked and distorted around the rear wing and boot, so that the boot doesn't shut properly. When driving the car home from the scene. There also appeared to be a problem with the suspension/transmission.

I'm fearful that the car is likely to be a write-off. Its agreed value is £4K and, although its in Excellent condition, I suspect the repair costs will be astronomical.

Has anyone ever been in this situation before? What specialist repairers would people recommend in the South East/Essex region? Any ideas on likely costs?

My poor baby is not at all well. She's sitting on my drive doing nothing, and in this heat wave as well! What a complete bl**** nightmare!!!!

Cheers,

Steve.

Gutted for you mate.

Repairs wise, try PR Woods in Westcliff on Sea. I've seen his GRP repairs, and they are (IMHO) stunning.

I know that TdF on this forum uses them for servicing as well, so might be worth dropping him a line.

EDIT - check this out www.tvr-prwood.co.uk/ or give the man himself a call on 01702 337735

There really are some useles a***holes on our roads
Neck will probably get stiffer before it eases: not much you can do except grin and bear it.
If it's any consolation, it's easier to repair a GRP shell than a steel one, and as long as the chassis isn't bent they can fit new suspension as well.
If you get a fat payout and they let you keep the car, and you don't want the hassle of fixing it; let me know, I may be interested in a project... seriously, not facetiously (for a change!)

My advice, as I had this happen to me, is to go out and hire an equivalent car right now, and inform the third part insurers of this, they will be falling over themselves trying to settle with you for the TVR, otherwise it will take them about 2 years before you see any money at all. My neck still aches after a rear end shunt, and that was nearly 2.5 years ago.

I don't think you will have any trouble in declaring the car a write off. They may sell it to you for £15 if you are lucky, and you can use it for spares

It’s a real shame to think that another Wedge would end up as spares. Hope it don’t come to that – good luck

Had this happen to me a few weeks ago on the way back from Gang On The Green.

Mine was a hefty shunt, pushed us across 2 lanes. The back end was damaged up as far as the middle of the boot,. the Chassis and suspension are some way from the rear of the car, and would need a very heavy rear impact to damage it. I found that the rear valance was pushed forward and would rub on the tyres, eventually it fell off.

My Wedge is presently in TVR Bodyshop (webbs) being repaired. If it was a newer model they would have replaced the whole back end, but that would have made it a write off, so they are repairing it.

Good luck

Gutted for you. I hope the car and youare sorted soon. I hope you went to the hospital for a check up - just in case. Neck injuries can be dificult to heal without proper care.

Sorry to here the news. Don is right - get the neck sorted. I kept ignoring neck pains after the odd Motorsport incident and a rear ender job until late 2001 when an M5 big rearend smack caused massive whiplash trauma. The extent of the injury was exasurbated by not having done anything in the intervening years. I got a good compensation payout and whilst I don't believe in the "compensation culture" cos it hits all our insurances it is in no way enough to cover the constant back pain I now have and the need to use seat bolsters when driving. Get it sorted. If you get the car back if they write it off giz a call as I have a few bits and bobs (lights, rear bumper, etc.

Sorry to hear about the bad news Steve. A similar thing happened to me in my 400SE...a 10mph impact, but a pain all the same.

I can strongly recommend The Fullbridge Restoration Company in Maldon (tel 01621 852320). They specialize in all sorts of exotica, and undertake lots of work from mainland Europe. My family have used them for numerous little (and big!) knocks over the years and have always been pleased with the result (and they did a flawless job on the 400SE!)
I believe they are in the process of becoming a recognised approved TVR repair shop too!!

Good luck,

Neil

Guys,

Many thanks for all your replies. I've been to the doctors and got a hire car now - an astra SXi (its a heap of S***, but it gets me about). How gutted was I to learn that I could have had a Porsche Boxter from the hire car company. Bugger!

Anyhoo, I'm encouraged by your comments/information. I've not had the car inspected yet, but I'll keep you informed of developments.

Thanks again,
Steve
