YES! the day had finally arrived, today i drove my newly aquired MX5 home from St Andrews to Coventry. She is brilliant! The exhaust goes barrrrrrp, she's nippy and utterly sexy! cloud9
1.8s, british racing green, N reg.

So now i want to be able to drive her to the best of my ability, but without going sideways into the crash barrier or a ditch. So can any of you recommend any limit handling courses or similar?

Decent tyres first!

My new acquisition tramlines and does all sorts of wierdness which doesn't inspire me with total confidence in the car. Luckily, I know the problems are down to the tyres - it has Pirelli P6000's which from my past experience on other less 'sporty' cars are absolutely rubbish. This and the rear tyres only have about 2.5mm remaining makes for some interesting characteristics.

I've got a quote for a set of Yoko Parada 2's fitted for 168 pounds! Bargain!

(I've chosen the Parada over the Goodyear simply because she only comes out in the dry, and the Parada are arguably better than the Goodyear in that respect (although the Goodyear would murder the Parada in the wet)).

I did a RideDrive course a few years ago and wouldn't hesitate about doing another one.

Enjoy the car!

Skinny - do you know if its possible to go back and do another taster?

I did one a couple of years ago in my other car - Carlimits is an excellent name becasue it does what it says on the tin!

Tyres are only half of the story. It doesn't matter what tyres you have if the alignment isn't right whereas even cr'p tyres can be made to perform adequately if the alignment is spot on.
Basically if the alignment hasn't been sorted in the last 2 years or you have no evidence to show it's been done (like buying a car second hand) then get it sorted asap. It can also sort out the tram-lining problem wink

mx5mad hold an open day everyear and you can book it. but the mx5oc book sessions there sometimes too. i think there's one at the end of september that they (or rather the cobham area group) are taking bookings for. it's on a weekday so cheaper but the one i'm going for in two weeks time is only £40 for the whole thing biggrin

HeHe! Thanks for your replies, £40 sounds great for the course, the ones i had a quick look at were in the hundreds! I did wonder about the tyres as at the minute she has some fairly new (dare i say it) Avons on, and they don't have a very good rep on here.

Once i've got her looking shiny again i'll put some pics up. The drive back was great even though the first half was very snowy. The 6 hours just wasn't long enough!! biggrin
(And i intend on getting the word barrrp into everyday language use, as in a ''barrrp car'' a car that goes barrrp when you press the quick pedal!)

ok just had a look on their website, you can either do the activities day, which is tuition on high speed handling for the morning and then either 1 or 2 coned (and i believe timed) courses in the evening, which are £46 per person

oryou can have a full driver training day where the morning is spent between a small number of you (either 2 or 4, obviously costs more for the 2 person) and you do any sort of driver training that you need, and then again circuits in the afternoon. cost of this one is £190 for the 4 person, and £380 for the 2 (!)

high speed handling it is then for me!! biggrin you still get a decent amount of andrew walsh's time if you need it and it gives you a totally safe place to explore the limits of your car and become familiar with them, which is a very good thing imo
