Sub £100 Compact with rechargeable battery
Discussion
Planning on getting my Mum a digital compact for her birthday next week with a max of £100. Stuff Magazine did a review last month of sub £100 compacts as below:
1) Fuji Finepix A920
2) Samsung S830
3) Pentax Optio E40
4) Nikon Coolpix L11
However, they ALL use AA batteries. I know you can get AA rechargeables, but we want a camera with a built in rechargeable battery.
Any recommendations for me? Need advice today!

Buy a Fuji F40 for £99? http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/532210/art/fuji/fi...
Will do much better than those on low light, take decent pictures in other conditions, has a rechargable battery... Just watch out as you will probably have to download the manual: they normally supply French manuals (why I don't know)

My gf just got a sub £100 camera- her criteria was also that it must have a rechargeable battery.
She got a Fuji - cant remeber the exact number, but is very similar to the one linked above. Very impressive for the price, battery lasts ages, and recharges quickly. Lag time from pressing button to it taking the picture is very short, and the cam powers up very quickly too.
Its impressive what you can get for your money these days!
I'm also looking for a similar priced compact for the folks, and again I didn't want AAA/AA cells - this looks ideal; does the F40 connect directly to a PC via USB, or does it come with a (PITA) dock?
ETA: Or I could look PROPERLY, and find the answer on the link. Carry on...

Why can't you use rechargeable AAs or AAAs?
I've got the touch you know

Most recharge-ables are lower voltage that standard AA / AAA's and can cause problems in some cameras. Either the battery indicator on the camera never reads full or in extreme cases the little buggers won't even switch on
True - they failed to impress my old D70 at all - they simply didn't work. However a set of 2400mAh AAs work very well in a Speedlight - over 400 shots on Sunday, many at full grunt in one of those accursed dark oak-panelled hotels!

A lot of the items sold by Pixmania are grey imports from Europe and other places so there can be problems with the warranty on some kit. Also spec. is not always the same as sold in UK - different accesories and software for example. But their prices are often lower than other suppliers. Will do much better than those on low light, take decent pictures in other conditions, has a rechargable battery...
