Hello all
Just fitted new cam and tappets over the weekend (in two days!!), noticed while it was on the ramps, that the clutch (or box) makes a screaping noise when its engaged, it sounds like running a stick along metal railings. it disapears when the clutch pedal is pressed down, and is only noticable at low speeds (due to road noise etc) any ideas?

I am having problems with crunching down shifting too, never upshifting. Co incidence?

Sounds like a broken finger on the friction plate on the clutch or a problem with the release arm or bearing..

As with these things .. you should investigate/fix the problem as leaving the problem will add to the wear on the g/box.

thanks, how many hours work is it to drop the box? Any special tools?
Im guessing
-drop the exhaust,
-unbolt drive shaft
-remove bellhousing
-remove linkage
- drop gearbox?

I'd add..

Slacken handbrake.
Remove console.
Remove Propshaft not driveshaft hehe
(Disconnect battery - spark avoidance wink )
Remove starter motor
(Undo bell housing. Slip backwards. Split bell housing / box.)

OTOMH.

Also, its the LT77 box, is removing the linkage a major head ache? Do you have to just remove the leather part of hte centre console to get access from above?

I think some 'ladies doctor' types can do it from underneath, but I'd whip the top off. Def worth getting the selector bushes etc overhauled at the same time as the box.

Took me a day the first time, but plan on giving the chassis a good going over whilst it is out... Mmmm solvents with head up in the transmission tunnel - I think you just sparked off withdrawal symptoms hehe

Hahah, i'm tempted to give it a try from the underside, just to see if I am one of those "Ladies Doctor types"!!
