I'm currently looking at this most square of 5 series, specifically 1984-1986 520s and 528s. Could anyone give me some pointers or nudge me in the direction of a good buyers guide?

Cheers in advance.

BMW Car magazine did one not long ago. Ring up the office and ask about a back issue for a couple of quid.

If your looking at 520's & 528i's why not split the difference and go 525e, 520's Are generally regarded as being a bit lack lusture in the power dept. more power and economy than a 520!

If I was you check out the 525e in the classifieds, if its as good as it looks its a gift at £2k

The only golden rules to buying are look out for rust and buy the best condition with as much history as you can.

Buying an excellent one can soon cost you a fair few pounds getting it 'just so'

Edited to say ... too late! http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/448349.htm sold!

Thanks Sparky!

Oh and Mustard the one you picked out looked very swish, to be honest I have my eye on a 528 but its far more of a "project" and no where near 2k, good suggestion though.

You need patience to find a good car at the right price.
Mate of mine mentioned that he was looking for another E28 last year.
Some months later I happened to see one in the yard of a small town garage and called to see what I could find out about it. Turned out an elderly widow has asked the proprietor to sell it for her. It was her late husbands car and just too big for her. Garage owner wanted a quick sale as it was taking up space.

1989 525e auto in silver with FSH and horrible cloth trim. 40k, yes 40k miles and completely unmarked inside and out

We stole it at £750

They're still out there if you look hard enough
