Just thought I would do my bit and promote this charity drive that will be raising money for some worth while causes. I'll be taking part myself and it'd be good to see as many of you there as possible to support this event. I have spoken to the organiser and they are very keen on having a presence there from Pistonheads.

The organisers are appealing in particular for high performance cars from car clubs, the day will be made up of a display of the cars taking part, and other activities but unfortunately the planned cavalcade has had to be cancelled. Attendees won't have to pay toll charges, and all toll charges for the day will be donated to the chosen charities.

General Info about the event:

This is the updated press release released today (08/04):

I'm trying to picture how it will look..
Am I right in thinking the M6 toll will be closed and a static display put on?
Sorry to sound dumb

Apologies, the info was in the links but it may have changed. The charity event will be on at one of the big service stations on the toll road, this is where the static display will be. There is potential for car clubs to have their own cavalcade down the toll road, but we can't all go together (which was the original plan) as there will be too many cars on the road at once.

You will get a pass so you do not have to pay toll fees, but everyone else using the road will still have to pay and the toll money donated. It may not sound like much, but last year the air ambulance (one of 4 charities) received £30k alone!

I'm still very much up for this.

What are the logistics, though? Are there specific "gathering" points for the participants? Do we get passes?

More info would be appreciated seeing as we are now 4 weeks away from the event.

Hi

I have received an info pack from the event organisers, and have a bit more info.
The event will take place at Roadchef, Norton Canes Motorway Service Area, T6/7 M6 Toll

There will be a static displays of motorcycles, high performance and vintage vehicles.
There will also be additional family entertainment throughout the day.

The morning display will be from 09:00-12:00 which will be the motorcycles and high performance vehicles.
The afternoon display will be from 13:00-16:00 and will be vintage vehicles.

A mixture of individuals and motorcycle and car groups will be taking part, and all vehicles must be pre-registered in advance. All registered vehicles will be supplied with an M6 toll voucher entitling the bearer to one free tip on the toll road during that day.

Please note, there has been overwhelming interest and limited space available, non-registered vehicles will not be able to display and will not be eligible for free passage on the toll road.

Individuals or groups must pre-register their vehicle(s) by calling M6 Toll Press Office on 0845 838 1684

Forgot to say, 20 spaces have been preliminarily reserved for pistonheads cars (although more may be available if required). I have been sent the forms but in all honesty, whilst I would like to help organise this, it will be easier to phone up individually and pre-register. Just say you are with PH though to avoid any confusion or duplication.

Also, if you do register, please can you put your name in here so we know who is going. It may also encourage others to attend.

Thanks

If anyone would like a copy then please let me know and I will e-mail it to you.

They really have no balls at all.

If this were Texas, they'd close the bugger down for a few hours (Sunday morning, 0700-1000, say) and let the timing beams loose.

But they won't.

For they are communists.

Tiny willied drooling ones, to boot.

Don't forget the toll needs to be open to take money (which will be donated)

Read between the lines and he's suggesting they should loose the speed limits for a few hours and watch the £'sssss fly in.

About 4 members of the general public will use it during this period as opposed to several dozen loons who, I'd wager, might be prepared to proffer significantly more per entrant for the opportunity to legally blast as fast as possible from one end to the other, several times.

I would happily pay a few hundred quid for several hours' unrestricted access to what would effectively be an empty(ish) UK autobahn.

Yeah it would be good fun, but there is a huge disclaimer about speeding on the fliers they have produced. I think you'd be surprised how much they take in tolls though, seems to be along the lines of £xxx, xxx a day or not far off (although I may be wrong), so if you fancy raising that for charity, please come along!

I have registered myself and the 450 in with the organisers so should be attending, all things being equal.

Hi

Is anyone else interested? The event organiser called me earlier for an update. Will be disappointing to say only 1 person from PH is going!
