Hi

I have the opportunity to do a track day at Goodwood in our standard Griffith 500 with standard exhaust.

Can anybody amongst the more experienced track day goer's tell me if the car is likely to exceed the 105db noise limit.

I apologise if this question has been asked a million times before, any info gratefully received.

Thanks

It's not just the exhaust. With a standard exhaust, but other tuning work I was over the sound limit.
With a non standard exhaust it sounds quieter, yet measures louder.
The only real answer is to get it measured before you pay for the booking.

Don’t think any two are the same however a previous owner of mine had the box cut open and the silencer pipes sleeved this made it really quite loud. At 2/3 max revs at 0.5 M I measured between 99 and 101. I have just gone back to a standard system and guess it will be a good 3db less (half as loud). Would be very surprised if a standard system would get anywhere near 105.

When I started Hill Climbing I had no idea ho loud the V8s was so went to an event as a spectator, tracked down a scrtineer and asked him to come out to the car park and measure it.

Standard Griff 500 and standard exhaust usually clocks 100 dB or thereabouts. I did 102 dB at recent Snett meet, and that is the highest ever. It is a log scale so 101 is a lot louder than 100 (like earthquakes). 105 dB is very loud. They will ask where you red line, and look very puzzled when they realise there isn't one. I always say I shift before 5000. They will probably ask you to run at 4000 for the test.

My standard 500 measured about 98-100 Db at the last Sprint I did. Should be fine.

It might be worth popping to a local track when there is a meeting on and politely asking a marshall if they can sound check your car in the paddock ? Somebody kindly did this at Oulton Park for me once.

My 500 with standard exhaust (but otherwise fairly modded) managed 113.4dB on a static test.

There's one Griff round here that must be below 100dB all the time, so you just never know.

you can get track day silencers which bolt on to tail pipes.. generaly reducing 5 - 10 db depending on car/system/silencer....

can be hired from ex tower view(un sure of contact number/company name... but still going).. ACT ( I think hire them out)... and some personal hire (step forward and let yourselfs be known)

If you can make it up to our monthly meeting on the 20th I'll measure it for you using the MSA guidelines. PM me for meeting details or see the Herts and Beds meeting post on the events forum.
