Now proud owner of JCW Cooper S and wondering if anyone on here knows how easy (or difficult) and costly it would be to have the wing mirrors chromed?

The car is immaculate and beuatiful in light electric blue (no idea of the colour's actual name?) with white roof, white mirrors and chrome line + 18" JCW Alloys, JCW heated leather seats, 210bhp engine and exhaust conversion, Sat Nav etc - I'm chuffed.

Would love to chrome the mirrors though - any advice gratefully received.

Welcome!

You can buy chrome mirror caps from a dealer, or many places do them online. The mirror caps simply pop off and push-fit back on so it's no problem at all.

Would be interesting to hear how the car compares to your Noble? They're on my list of cars to own at some point in my life.... although I guess time's running out to find a good one?

Cheers for that Dave, I wasn't aware the caps simply popped off?

The Noble is a truly fabulous piece of kit - I bought mine just over a year ago from the TVR Centre in Barnet. You can see a pic of it on my profile if you feel the urge - I believe there isn't a better looking one in the country (I'm biased of course)

I'm taking it to the Nurburgring in June as a swansong, then letting someone else have a go. I just spent a fortune on it having a big service (£1.3k) plus the front end resprayed to remove the stone chips, so now it looks as glorious as it is to drive. Before it goes to the ring I'm having the obligatory spanner check done and some pagids pads fitted for fade free track work, with even more stopping power. Will break my heart to sell it but sell it I will...

...so if you're interested it'll be available from the 3rd week in June, after it's popped back to Barnet for another (post Ring) spanner check.

Get over to www.mini2.com they've got some good guides on there.

There's quite a high noise to signal ratio, but some real snippets of info.

If you decide to tune it, read around before you decide on GTT/lohen/1320/etc as they've all got merits and some cack thumbup

Car sounds great. Unfortunately as has already been said, you will get better responces on MINI2. PH doesn't seem to have a large MINI community.

The Chrome mirror caps are reasonably cheap from a main dealer (in the region of £60 from memory). Its the carbon fibre / body colour ones which are a joke. I was quoted about £150 for a pair of astro black ones.

The car sounds great, get some pictures up in the picture thread. wink

Try getting a black bonnet scoop!

Except they only come in primer and they've got to be painted, meaning it's an exercise in being shafted, textbook style.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Had a quick glance at mini2.com which looks very interesting. What's the VX220 like as an ownership prospect? Having owned a couple of Lotus' previously, it's always interested me to see how good the chassis is and many's the time I was nearly tempted...

I've been trawling the net at work today (didn't get much work done I confess) looking at the amazing number of aftermarket options you can fit to your mini. I had no idea there was so much to choose from. BMW wins! biglaugh

I also stopped by the official mini site to play with the 'build your own Cooper S' feature, to see how much the first owner (poor sod) had to fork out for all the extras and discovered it was well in excess of £13k. Astonishing!

Apart from the mirrored wing caps, which I now know I can purchase from my local BMW dealer (the clip on variety rather than the stick on), I've taken a bit of a shine to the chequered JCW mats. I think my new toy has enough in the way of extras to keep me amused for some time, so these couple of cheapish finishing touches will suffice for now, although the JCW front brakes may well be on my shopping list before long.

One further question: my mini 'only' has the radio boost from the chilli pack, which to me sounds very good indeed, punchy strong bass, controlled treble and very warm. At a further £780 plus fitting how good must the Harmon Kardon system sound? Can anyone tell me what I've missed out on?

Al

p.s. Jolly - I will be posting a picture or two up when I've taken some, now I have a 2nd car that may tempt me to leave the Noble at home on occasion yes

The VX220 is stunning, it's effectively an S1.5 with a reliable engine, once mine's supercharged it'll be perfect biggrin

TBH it's pretty much useable all year round, but the heater is pants on it, so winter is a bit chilly.

Will be looking forward to the pics, the car sounds great. smile

I have the Harmon/Kardon sound system, and it is bloody amazing for an OEM optional extra system. The bass is very strong (some people complain that it is too much, but I would disagree) It has two extra speakers in the rear, and revised tweeters in the door cards. The amp is also located in the boot.

As you say though, the standard 'boost' systems are also very good. smile

Al - nice to see another 'sports car' owner take the mini step, like I did back in Oct last year, one i've not regretted one bit!

Get yourself on eBay and look for the few official Mini dealers who sell stuff on there. Cotswold Mini have lots of stuff, as do a few others like Cooper Mini in Tunbridge Wells. They offer official things like mirror caps etc at knock down prices. I picked up my JCW gear knob for pretty much half the RRP, from Cooper Mini in Tunbridge Wells!

HTH, oh and as others have said mini2.com is your friend.

As a former TVR owner I'm guessing your mini is proving to be slightly more reliable? laugh

Good call on the eBay shops - found both the mirror caps and the mats I was looking for cheaper than from a BMW dealer and with free postage.

Well, she's only 7 months old, so still a fair way to go yet, but so far so good and no problems at all. (touch wood!).

Nice one, I spotted some chrome mirror caps a while back when I was looking for the carbon JCW insert, hence why it rang a bell. Glad I managed to save you a few quid!
