Vauxhall reinvents the Griffin badge (a bit)

Stuck on the noses of everything from a Nova SR to a Monaro VXR, the Vauxhall Griffin badge is a familiar sight.

But now the Griffin has been given a makeover and will make its first appearance on the company’s Vectra replacement, the Insignia.

The car will make its debut at the British International Motor Show in July and the new badge will appear on all new Vauxhall models after that.

And if you were just thinking that the new Griffin is just a badge re-design, you are sadly mistaken.

Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall’s Managing Director, explained: ‘While the new-look Griffin pays homage to our 100 year-plus manufacturing heritage in the UK, it also encapsulates Vauxhall’s fresh design philosophy, first showcased in the current Astra, and set to continue with Insignia.’

I can't help thinking it looks like something the commander of a spaceship might have stuck on his uniform in a sci-fi flick, but I'm guessing that's just me.

Interestingly the ‘first public airing’ of the new badge is not until summer at Vauxhall’s HQ in Luton. We can’t wait…

I think it looks quite good, pleasing to the eye, the other one was a bit too "busy"

Do GM/Vauxhall still make cars in the UK or do they now only make engines?

I'm sorry to ask, but I was thinking this the other day and don't really have a clue after all that fiasco at Luton a few years ago.

smile

Edited to add, and what ever happened to Bedford?

Ellesmere Port manufactures both the Vectra and Astra.

Lutton manufactures commercial vehicles.

The design of the badge is becoming more Holden-esque just like the cars, which can only be a good thing imo.

Now just to change the name, the marketing, the design and the management and we might just have a decent car manufacturer. Oh, screw that, I'll jst by a different car! biggrin

All they do in Vauxhall factories is ripping the badges off from Opels and sticking their own on. Why people call Vauxhall a British car manufacturer. There's nothing British about them, they just Opels (or Holdens) with different badge and RHD. And it's so funny when I read that Vauxhall has presented their new car because they dont really designe cars nor engines, it's all done by bigger companies like Opel (in conjunction with GM) and they just stick their badge on it.loser
