Just bought an Elise s2 Type 49
Discussion
Hello all from a newbie. Just bought an s2 type 49, Apr 2003, 3 previous owners (Lotus cars, plus 2 ladies) and 18,300 miles. Been looking for ages and saw this fabulous looking beast at a good price from a Lotus franchised dealer. Really looking forward to picking it up on Monday and then every sunny weekend (got a Fabia vRS for everyday use, and very good it is too!).
Would like to know if the type 49 has the standard (120bhp?) or the VVC (160bhp?) engine. Also, would love to hear any feedback from other type 49 owners - done a search and can find very little on this forum or the web in general.

Skyman, yes it is. Do you know it?
Alimac, thanks. I'm looking forward to getting behind the wheel of it again.
Another question; with driving it only at weekends / occassionally, how long will the battery survive (2, 3, 4 weeks?), or should I get a trickle charger? This will be a particular issue in the winter.

You bought it without finding what engine it had in it first ??
If it's got 4 forward facing airvents on the dash then it'll be the VVC as the vvc installation on the S2 co-incided with the improved HVAC system.
If it's only got air vents at the top pointing at the windscreen then it'll be a 120.

Great choice mate, believe you me you can't go wrong with a limited edition heritage Elise,I have a S2 Type 25 which I keep in immaculate condition. If you have'nt got a garage you've got to invest in a decent cover for it.Hangar 111 do a superb one foe about £180.00,costly I know but it'll protect your investment.Well done and welcome do da club.
Had an S2 type 49 myself. The S2 only came as a standard 120bhp but with the close ratio box.
It will be very nippy, will keep up with a porsche GT3 in the turns at Bedford autodrome and do an excessivly high mpg.
It should come with both a hard and a soft top and the gold wheels are a "special" colour but i have the code and the supplier should you need it.
Its the best colour combination of any Lotus
Enjoy

All, thanks for the welcome and your comments. I will be getting a battery conditioner and, although it'll be stored in an open-fronted "cart shed" type building, I've got a cover on order from Specialised / Covercraft.
Type49: yes it's got both the hard and soft tops (and the gold wheels), and it does look good!
Chris49: fortunately I saw it just after it had been posted on their website. The salesman wasn't even yet aware of it and thought I was refering to a type 49 they had sold a few months ago.

I was going to buy one from Hexham Horseless. I test drove it on the saturday, had a rough figure agreed re car and my trade in, and was going to go back the week after and purchase (after sleeping on it over the weekend so to speak).
Come wednesday, I was called into work early in the morning, set off driving to work, hit some ice, resulting in this.

Therefore, no trade in so not able to purchase the Type 49 Id lusted after for so long. By the time the insurance money had come in, it had sold. I was absolutely gutted! Congrats on getting one, in my opinion, definately the best Elise colour scheme!
