9:30AM, nice sunny Sat AM. Awful accident blackspot known as the M40, J2 (Beaconsfield), 4 lanes wide, not much traffic (as usual 95% of the day on this stretch). Heading Eastbound, slight bit of glare from the sun, but you could see a white van parked up on the kerb on the bridge/roundabout above, only about 50 feet away could you tell it had the side window open for photo opportunities.

I hope they fry from the heat today.

I'm not impressed.

Edited to say: I was only doing 75ish on the inside lane, this is not a rant trying to make excuses for my own speed (unless I actually do get a ticket for that!?!).

I drove passed it coming off at J2, gave it the obligatory two fingers.

Haven't seen it there before, hopefully it's not going to be a regular thing, they might be scamming, err, looking out for people on the roundabout.

I saw it at 11am when I was going westbound. Slammed on the brakes, but it looked like it was tracking cars coming into town. What's the legality of the "not police" car being parked on a busy roundabout for two hours?

To be honest, this has been a favourite haunt of traffic police since I've been driving (12 years). Doesn't excuse them being there with a tax-collecting vehicle when the road is empty!

Unfortunately no one saw my Camera van in plain view parked on the A40,W12 yesterday and hence the vast majority of drivers were travelling way over the limit. I had to stop when I ran out of film.
I did think I had sorted this road out, but people never seem to learn even when there`s a traffic car in plain view..........

Will, you seem to be a regular on that part of the road. Just for my future referance where abouts do you sit as I'm up and down that road almost every day (inc yesterday) and I've never seen you.

Plus the traffic lights where out yesterday and I wasn't going over 2mph most of the time.

Small layby about 1/2 mile WEST of the elavated EASTBOUND section. It`s just before the last large bus stop into town, opposite White City.

ah, you're on the eastbound section, so you probably saw me yesterday doing more than 2mph!

Plain view - good to hear. People were probably too busy trying to miss each other and get out of London as fast as possible godforsaken place it is. You can't fine people for that can you?

Has anyone ever offered to buy you a drink afer finding out your occupation? (probably a drink of antifreeze). Nothin' personal, but I think I'd rather be a traffic warden IYKWIM.

All those drivers over the limit? There must have been carnage. I'm surprised I didn't see the huge death toll on the news.

Yup, another great use of a policemans time. Photographing zillions of drivers for doing all of 60-70 miles an hour on a duel carriageway, that used to be a 60MPH road IIRC. What is it now? 50? 40?

Will, all due respect, but when your bosses tell you to sit in that van and photo cars. Why don't you just use your better judgement and stop the speed tax. If you told your boss that you had got it sorted, who could blame you. Unless of course you really do think your helping society by doing it?

As I`ve explained before I only attend roads that need the speed limit enforcing and have a high number of Fatal RTA`s. I do not attend roads that we as Traffic officers do not believe need enforcing.
The sad fact is there are not enough Traffic cars to cover all the roads, we have for the moment lost the battle on speeding.
I believe we need to raise the fear of being caught and enforce the speed limits, when that is done we can deal with the real p*ss takers on the roads.
When the camera van is used in a correct manner I just can`t see the problem....it`s just the same as a hand held speed trap but quicker......
If anybody has any other ideas on how to combat this problem then please let me know......and whilst I`m ranting on I get really annoyed when people don`t wear seatbelts and refuse to put them on when next to a marked car, carry on talking on the mobile phone despite the traffic car next to them, drive with their fog lights on when its clear visibility and don`t signal at r`bouts....and my favorite...drive past a Traffic car above the speed limit and then brake for a speed camera and then complain about being stopped.....

I'd far rather officers were stopping people who take the piss on several counts than just manning a machine - any monkey can do that.

Have we? I've read on numerous occasions that we have the safest roads in the world (average deaths per mile driven). Sounds like you guys are doing your job just fine.

I think their getting desperate, they have to change their policy to mobiles for some reason possibly due to fix camera revenue falling away, Norfolk police have a 40k shortfall, particularly with the Thames valley plods who are all targetted to produce speed fines...

Virtually never indicate on roundabouts, if the road placement of your car is such that the indicators need to tell the car behind/in front what your intentions are then it labels you as an inexperienced road user.

Everyone brakes for speed cameras cos its a fact of life in this country that despite what people say, they all drive as if they think the speed limit is too low.

I always drive my bike with the headlight on, which I don't see as much different to travelling with fogs on, I'm sure has saved me numerous times from numpties in side roads.

But never use a mobile when mobile, and have always used seatbelts.

Sorry BIB I think you're slightly too far to the LHS of the nanny state for me. Maybe I'm one of the millions of pi** takers. or maybe just one of the majority of joe public who think you BIB have lost the plot.
