Ferrari Track days. Advice please
Discussion
I'm wanting to get the Mr a ferrari track day for our anniversary. He'd prefer Donny or Elvington and I was looking at this one http://www.buyagift.co.uk/Product/Id/326/Name/Ferr... and was wondering if any of you had done this one or had any recommendations.
Thanks in advance

LOL at customer review:
"Sally Heavens,
This was an amazing experience - it really got the adrenalin pumping. After a lap of the circuit with the instructor at the wheel, to gain an idea of the layout of the track, it was my turn to have a go. He (my instructor) was very keen that I depress the accelerator pedal as much as I could, whenever the track allowed it - but I was a bit nervous at first and getting used to steering the car, which in racing seems to be the reverse of normal, everyday driving - steering towards the nearside at an offside bend, for example, so that the car travels diagonally across the track. Very soon, though, the fear kicked out and the excitement really kicked in! And I even OVERTOOK someone - in another Ferrari! Hurrah! It was the BEST time ever. Thank you for your help in arranging this unforgettable day out."
Which actually demonstrates exactly what these days are about....aimed at people who have NEVER driven anything quicker than their own daily and who has probably never shown any real interest in cars or motorsport.
A mate of mine went on a similar thing to this and was driven for 1 lap by the instructor, got 3 laps himself followed by a flying lap from the instructor....needless to say he was pretty dissapointed. Read carefully about the format of the day..Im pretty if you look on the Donington website it says you get 6 miles of driving. Some companies do it time based...say 10mins of driving in total.
I believe the Lotus Exige experience at Silverstone and Thruxton are a good value drive.
I always thought this one http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/experiences/pors... looked to be good value...tiwce the price of the Ferrari one though. I have no link to any of these events...just last time I was in the UK I tried to book one of them but they had booked out months previously.

Does anyone else find it a little worrying that this person actually has a driving license?Unless he's got a real hard on for ferraris.
Something like this would (for me) be more fun.

Its not going to be the longest day but I am looking forward to it. I'm not going to be able to have a Ferrari for a while so I'm more than happy with this

Drivers please wear soft soled shoes or trainers. Climbing boots are not suitable for driving supercars!
Made me smile. Does look like they want to make sure their clients get the most out their experience though.Do any of these days let you buy extra laps? Mind you most of these companies probably do not want you to get the feel of the car and start exploring the limits

Just a quick one - my brother's got a voucher for one of these at either Rockingham or Donington.
Now he's not really a petrolhead, and frankly is pretty slack behind the wheel, so he'll not be after the same thing as you or me.
But I wanted to find out which of these two will give him more wheel-time, and with less restrictions? I know that R'ham have 360's and Donny 355's (unless that's changed recently), which might affect his choice. And I did an M3 thing at R'ham (paid for by company) and was underwhelmed personally but on reflection it might be enough for him.
Any comments welcome (the more details the better...)
Cheers,
Martin.

I personally think the corporate track experience days (regardless of car) is a complete waste. Far too expensive for the amount of track time wich generally is not much at all,
You're far better off booking a full day with someone like BookaTrack.com in one of their Caterhams and who have ARDS instructors at hand all day. Much, much better value for money. If it's a small taster you want or a tighter budget you're on, you/he could share the day with a couple of friends or do a half day.

I agree with all of that...for people who want to drive above all else. For people who're more into the image and sensation of cars (and I'm sure you know how many of them there are), 15 mins in a Ferrari will trump an hour or two in a Caterham easily...havoc said:

Rockingham & Donington are both the same outfit, ............ If 5 minutes in a car is what turns you on, go for it, .... if you don't want to be part of the sausage machine, then go elsewhere!!! The cars are the same used at both circuits!!Now he's not really a petrolhead, and frankly is pretty slack behind the wheel, so he'll not be after the same thing as you or me.
