How many people have used their car for a Trackday?
Discussion
I've not used the vxr8 on track yet but other cars lots. Sorry if this is numpty stuff but it's all info I found useful in the past.
Alot of it will come down to how you drive it. I'd be surprised if theres large front tyre wear and depending on the brakes you have fitted (the vxr8 ones hold up very well) they should be ok.
Rear tyres... well..
Also - depends on the track. For example, an airfield (esp Elvington) are either crap surfaces or when they do have decent surface is very high grip stuff and shreds tyres. I'd only advise an airfield if you are about to change the tyres anyway.
I've always found a couple laps warm up, a mid session cool off (couple laps at half speed, try not to use the brakes) and a cool down lap seem to keep all the temps in check (including the driver!).
One thing to remember with heavy high bhp cars - you'll storm down the straights but the corners will be fun. Just remember the lightweight cars will get fed up (and complain to the TDO) as they won't be able to pass you on the straights unless you lift but be all over you in the corners.

I have done Silverstone GP, great circuit really suits our car's, smooth and fast
even quicker then Elise's on some corners
7 or 8 laps max for brakes and tyres(see picture of ute in the other trackday thread).
Also done Oulton Park long track, good fun and challenging but to bumpy, wheel spin at top end of 4th gear
Had new tyres, not a good idea, when hot they roll around to much. Brake's also suffered badly.
Did a couple tracks in WA with standard brake's, 2laps max
For Brands Hatch Indy circuit next month I'm trying DS3000 pads and Toyo 888 tyres, plus I've just fitted a Kaaz diff

Silverstone is a great track for the big V8 - highly recommended (although as a GP track is about double the cost of other circuits).
Outlon Park is very technical circuit and demanding with lots of elevation change, blind corners and tight bends. It'll probably tax the tyres and brakes far more than silverstone and there are a number of areas where there is no run off. However the banked hairpin is good fun :-)
Brands Hatch is worth a go as the first corner is amazing - blind, off camber and very much downhill (low cars can ground out so be careful). Even if only doing the indy circuit (5 corners) it's well worth it as the corners are great and the shortness of the track mean you get lots of practise at them.
If it's your first track day I'd say it's worth doing an airfield day (even though it'll hurt the tyres) as it'll allow you get used to the car without anything to hit (other than the odd cone).
