front indicator lights - Luckyp?

Pete I seem to remember you talking about changing the front indicator lights to a more modern looking unit (hella?) - did you do it?

Has anybody used anything else to the 'mini' type unit? - Did it work for SVA?

Yep, I changed from the old style to the Hella units and I think CanAm Dave has as well. They look so much better but I don't think anybody has noticed! I would think they are fine for SVA as long as they are considered orange enough that is.

^^^ these were the ones i was thinking off.. i have the factory lights but fancy something more modern. I can measure the factory lights but dont have the body yet so dont know about fitting space wise...?

The Hella unit is 60mm in diameter and I didn't have to enlarge the holes to fit them. Depth wise they are fine too.

All that was required was fabrication of some new brackets as the mounting points stand well off what was used with the orignal lights. This allows the clear lens to just protrude the aperture without the black of the lamp housing showing.

Don't forget the lamp must be visible from the front and round to the side by a defined angle for SVA (Have the figures at home if needed). This means you need to be carefull not to recess it too far back into the housing.

yeah ive got a feeling it was 45^, that was my worry... looking at it i think it should be ok?

SVA book chap. 9.1 annex 5
Each lamp must provide an 'apparent surface'.
This is a surface emitting light of the appropriate colour.
SVA book chap. 9.1 annex 2 & 3
Says 50% of the apparent surface must be visible from 80 degrees out to the side, 45 degrees in to the middle, 15 degrees up and 5 degrees down.
