Do you have to have a labotomy before you can choose this as a profession??

I have spent all week "trying" to obtain quotes on the two cars that i am about to buy and right now i am about to rip out the throat of the first car insurace sales person that i meet.

A few simple examples of my frustration are.

1) The insurance on an Elise S is double that of a 111R, ok the 111R is 2 years older but only worth £1k less in monetry terms.

2) The insurance on an Exige S will be £4200 (i am 36 with full no claims with the car garaged overnight)

3) We cant beat or even match the insurance quote you have been quoted by moneysupermaket.com even if you come direct to ue. The difference is £180.

4) Same company - can you give us your details again despite me phoning at least 3 times this week.

5) Having a tracker monitor actually increases the premium by £130.

6) The insurance premium on a Meriva is virtually the same as a 111R (£20 difference)

7) Why, why ,why - Because thats what my computer says.

RANT OVER.

PS
My apolgies to the insurance people who do actually have a brain and some common sense. Its just that i havent spoken to any this week.

edit; oh, I'm with A-plan. I'd give them a call if I were you!

Aplan have done me well too biggrin

I rarely will insurers say no outright, but if they dont want anymore cat20 cars on their books, I guess they quote fookoff money.

I have well beaten the £4.2k quote elsewhere but it does highlight the inconsistencies and the need to shop around.

surely its worth getting the 7 day free car insurance through Norwich Union Direct. Given that you only keep your cars that long it'll save you a packet.

£4200 eek Thats a joke - cant believe they also raised the premium on the quote for having a tracker banghead as it knocked a good couple hundred off mine

I have just got off the phone with Adrian Flux. Great price with all mods declared and interestingly they have told me to stop my tracker subscription as Loti are a low theft risk and not needed for their insurance.

Very happy as thats just saved me £135!

filled in a form on line today with them but no-one has come back to me. Getting the car tomorrow so looks like they are going to miss out on a potential customer. Im staying with ESure as they are the lowest quote i have had although that is pushing £1k for a 111R.

I think it's the postcode thats killing you. I'm 37, full NCB, not points, convictions, garaged etc. I'm fully comp. in the Exige, an X5, a Jeep Cherokee and now a Honda CRV for less than £1600 combined.

I'd hang on and speak to someone in the morning.

Hi everyone, new member here and about to buy my first Lotus, can't wait! Just wondering if anyone has had experience of moneysupermarket.com. I have got some online quotes from the above website that just seem too good to be true.

For example the best 2 were £335 from Esure and £340 from Sainsburys yet when I entered the exact same data into these companies own online quote systems they were both £100 more. What's even stranger is the best quote I could get from Chris Knott was £600 and Zurich (my current insurers) £650.

By the way this is for a 4 year old 111S that is garaged and I am 48 with full NCD. I will be trying A plan but I am finding this insurance business a mine field.

I would be interested to hear what other members similar to my age are paying.

Read my post earlier. ESure were also the lowest for me and the reason that their prices are higher direct is because they give big discounts to moneysupermarket.com.
