Fortunately not in my Tuscan.
I am in California at the moment driving a Pontiac Grang Prix and was hit from behind by a Mustang. eek

What has amazed me is that neither car suffered any damage.
It was hard to say how fast the nice young lady was doing when she hit me but it felt hard enough and my neck is in agreement.
Does anyone know what speed of impact plastic bumpers are expected to withstand ?

In the UK it's about 5mph.. with no damage (panels popping out etc..)

You you let off the brake as you were hit and brake after - it's always possible to have less damage

Yes well your a right there.
But I was gob smacked that the only damage was a small scuff of the paint on my "P" for Pontiac.
Apart from that I got a promise of a free drink from the girls Cafe in Berkeley.

American cars, bigger, stronger and 5" longer.

I thought the US crash regs mean that cars over there have bigger bumpers..... Hence silly stickyout bumpers on civics and stuff.

I could be WAY off there though.

Those Grand Prixs are built like tanks. We had one of the front tyres (uh... tires) go on the freeway and merely assumed the roads were worse than usual for a few miles before we pulled over to check.
