Happened across this company and was intrigued by their 3.5 conversion..... Looks like a pretty cost effective way of getting 200+ bhp in the S.....

Would it not be more cost effective to junk the 12valver and put a 24v in instead?

Doug,

Experience tells me that engine conversions rarely turn out as straight forward as first imagined and on budget. I put a 16V red top Vauxhall lump into a MK1 Mexico that I once owned and that ended up costing me in excess of £4K.... I reckon that a 24V Cossie lump into an S3 would cost you at least that and not offer a great deal more as far as power is concerned....
I look forward to being proved wrong though....!!

There are many threads on this forum regarding replacing the cologne with the cossie and there are even a few people who have done it. I think the cost works out somewhere near £4k but it is a great motor afterwards. Also, as far as the insurance is concerned its still a 2.9! I believe there is a guy 'Boosted' that actually will do the conversion for you.

This company have been around for years and build nice engines. Being up in the frozen north they also charge real money and not inflated southern prices.

I know of a very nice 3000m racing car ran by a close friend of mine who has had the engine in the car for 4 seasons without needing a re-build. make of that what you will. (its the one in the picture on my link front page.)

I would be very surprised if the company cannot do something with the 2.9. I always thought the blocks etc were the same with different non siamezed heads?? unless the bore spacing was altered for the heads of course?
