Hi guys,

Anyone removed the cat from the exhaust system?
How does it sound?
Does it still pass emissions law?

Views, ideas and experiences welcomed!

Yes,
Good,
Maybe smile

Cats are not mandatory as long as you can pass the sniffer. Its generally accepted that on the stock engine cats are required to pass due to unburnt fuel etc.
Mr Wortec has done testing where they say cats vs no cats makes little if no difference. (I suspect little, rather than no)
Its down to the cat design and density. If you spec it right it wont hurt performance or muffle the sound so much. Think increased diameter..

They wont pass a legitimate MOT with no cats in.

Just to let you know, I bought my ro last August from a Vauxhall Dealer in Oxford and drove around quite happily until March when the MOT was due, I should add that it has a Monkfish Performance Pack which I did not know was fitted at the time of purchase.

So go for MOT and a failure on emissions, Deep despair !! the garage say that it must be an O2 sensor or Cat failure. So I go home to consider the options, namely Greens as I live in Kent, Then ring Monkfish who say " Have you got Cats fitted ?". Did'nt think of that I must admit. Sure enough no cats lurking underneath the car at all. So 2 days later up to Monkfish, Cats fitted, and back for an MOT. Deep joy, new MOT, but I must say, No difference in exhaust sound that I can notice, and, more importantly no difference in performance.

removable cats
great
it wont pass with them not fitted (visual check) but can pass emissions - a hot stainless system acts like a catalyst anyway but you run the risk of an on the spot £1000 fine if you get a road side inspection and they notice they aren't there.

If you remove you would be better off thinking about the tune too.
