chim 500 1999
when i acelerate hard on the motorway the car feels like it is going over cobblestones and stays the same even when i ease off slightly.
Only when I slow down by 30ph does this disappear. If I acelerate in a more controlled fashion I do not get this .
Any ideas what this is ? I am thinking driveshafts, clutch etc?

you would imagine driveshaft clutch issues to be consistant and not just under full load (altho early signs of clutch issues will show here).

Are you sure it isnt a engine problem?

Have you tried free wheeling at your issue speeds and seen what that shows?
I would try and rule out drivetrain if you can by systematic testing.

Is the roughness felt in the steering?
could be an ignition problem? brought on by the wet weather?

as with all things of the "sounds like, does this" nature, difficult to diagnose without seeing/driving the car

Check your HT leads. Driver's side, the one closest to the driver. Damn thing gets hot, then refuses to grip the top of the spark plug tightly enough, then (eventually) starts coming loose.

The first sign is horrible lumpiness under hard acceleration as the g-forces push the HT lead away from the connection it needs with the spark plug.

Of course - it may be nothing like this at all - but the fix is so simple (ramming the damn lead home) that it is well worth a try. If it IS the HT lead coming loose you will be needing a new one in due course but the RAMMING IT HOME part is quite satisfying and solves the problem for the next day or so anyway...

What he said. Mine was displaying somne similary symptoms (although not as bad as yours sounds) turned out one engine mount was in pieces, the other had no nut on the bolt ! I'll never forget that feeling when I was told how lucky I was to still be in one piece.....

thks guys will check the plug thing and mountings and have another go.
I have had the car for about 3 weeks and done about 2ooo mainly motorway miles this is the first time i have used the loud pedal more than half way so bit of a surprise(no time to keep an eye on the dials).
car has so far run fine good oil pressure 30-35 and temp 70-90.when this happened it was dry-warm and i had done approx 130 miles on the motorway with another 25 to go.I did notice the bonnet was shaking a lot as driving against the wind direction.
