Just out of curiosity really, can the Monaro key be swapped out for anything else? Can one of the new Vauxhall flip keys be reprogrammed for it? obviously it would need to be a three button for the boot release.

I've tried doing a search, but couldn't find an answer. I was really surprised on the size of the monaro key, it's flipping enourmous.

What does the VXR8 key look like? can that be reprogrammed for a RO, and has anyone done this?

The key fob is actually part of the immobilasation system. There is a contact ring surounding the ignition barrel and by putting the key in, will complete the circuit, that's what the little metal knob is on the fob.

Try putting the key into the ignition and putting a bit of paper between the knob and contact ring and try starting the car.... it wont.

So, the simple answer is, you are stuck with that keyfob

Ah, I did wonder what that bit of metal was. Thanks BO55. Nice easy question.

The key is quite huge though. Made me laugh when the dealer handed it over for a test-drive.
At least no one will pinch them, thinking they are for a truck or something biglaugh
