Bulkhead bearing & Steering rack
Discussion
Need to replace steering rack, due to time pressure I am hoping to track down a second-hand (non pas) unit and then get the old one recond at my leisure. The bulkhead bearing also appears to be knackered, after doing a search on hear I can only find references to S's and Wedges, neither can I find the part listed with the usual suspects, any ideas?

It was some time ago I took mine out and cleaned it up (water was leaking onto it) but I wouldn’t have thought it anything too special, just take the old one into a local bearing suppliers for them to match up.

Simon.
Arh if only, just a bit rural here! I will take it all to bits tonight and have a look.Cheers,

Right, still trying to get to grips with the bulkhead bearing. From inside I can see a disc with nuts around it an what looks like a cable tie wrapped around its edge, from under the wheel arch, there are no fittings, the splined road just comes through a large hole in the bulkhead, there is a bit of sealant around the edges, with the rack removed, if I grab the top UJ, I can move the assembly around in the hole, in other words, the bulkhead bearing does not appear to be attached to the bulkhead at all. Sorry if this is a long winded way of describing this, I just can’t figure out how it is supposed to be.
Right got to the bottom of it, took the steering colum out and found that the round plate that is ment to be bolted to the floor and broken away! Now having plates made up to strengthen the hole area, was considering fitting electronic PAS anyway and aparently its a good idea to strengthen the mounting points anyway.
