CTJ2000G 2-Tonne Professional Trolley Jack looks the buisnessread but there was something in the spec which confused me slightley. It says the Saddle height - Min 120mm, Max 490mm . but the Dimensions (LWH) - 645 x 345 x 156mm show it to be to high. The bible sayes my chim clearence hight is only 132mm.

the saddle i assume is the lifting point at 120mm ( great). But the body is 156mm ( not great).
I may be over fussing but surly the body wont fit under far enough to reach the dessired jacking points.
Have i over looked somthing?, sorry if this is a daft question im nosilly mechanic.... yet. But what is the point of a low saddle if the rest of the thing will not fit under.

Can anyone recoment a good set of axle stands and a trolly jack they use arount the same price?thumbup

Not the one you want IMO.
You need a low flat one which enables it to miss the sills there looks to be too much of a angle on that one.
Seeing you did'nt give us the link is it the one from machine mart?
I got mine from costco slightly more but it great for our cars.
Cheers

Also use 2 ton axle stands from halfwits you can get 2 ton jacks but this lifts very high i position it in the middle of the car front or back and when height reached slip the stands in.
It's a bit over the top for our cars but i'll never need another.

I bought the standard jack kit from Machine Mart.

The jack doesn't quite fit, but if you park the car on a couple of pieces of wood (to lift it) then they fit easily.

Much cheaper than buying the aluminium "racing jacks"!

It says on the axle stand packaging you should not support all 4 wheels of the ground at one , and that you should do the front/back of the car independently for safty reasons.

What if i was to drive the front on to a ramp then jack up the rear onto the stands. would that be ok?
i realy want to access the hole of the car in one go.

I had my entire car supported on 2 ton axle stands for the whole of the winter last year so I could roll underneath and get to the chassis to clean it.
I've also done it a couple of times to allow me to get under and drop the exhaust system off.

I don't understand why you shouldn't be able to put it on stands like that. And don't forget that you are nowhere near the capacity of the stands with the Chim or Griff.

I raised the entire body on mine while it was up of 4 axle stands. I suspect it's just the manufacturer covering themselves for that 'elfin safety bks. That said, I did manage to lift one corner clear of the stands when I was separating the body which was a little worrying yikes

I usually put any wheels I take off underneath as well, just in case!

Argos do a 1.25 tonne

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0...

This should be OK as Chim+Griff are only about a tonne so as long as you only lift one end or a corner and not the whole ca, I can't see the weight on the jack ever being more than about 0.7 tonne.
