e39 530i advise

All right folks,

Just been offered a 530i,mettalic blue,tan leather,17inch bmw wheels on her.

X plate,2000,full bmwsh,drives like new,auto.

The crunch is that it`s done...198.000!

The car drives,looks perfect.

Is it worth taking a punt on it?

£3500? is that too dear?

Hi mate,

I'm picking up a 1998 540i Manual this coming weekend for £2200, mines only had 2 owners and comes with FBMWSH.

I assume it's the same shape as mine, so I would say that yes, a 5 series with 198,000 miles shouldn't be selling for £3500, more like £2750 maximum. The 4.4 Litre V8's can take alot of mileage, as can the 3 Litre V8's, I'd say the 3 Litre your'e looking at is probably good for around another 50,000 miles at least.

But if you plan on doing mega miles in it then I'd look for an older example with alot less miles.

Just because it's newer doesn't make it all that better either, it just means the seller puts a bigger price tag on it, lol

2000X is the oldest 530i E39 you can buy. There are no older ones and becuase its newer it DOES make it better - it makes it a facelift model with the newer M54 engine range.

I'd take it at that mileage and price - it's done mostly long trips. Mine is on 150k (bought @ 4 years old 140k) and drives better than the 60k mile 530d we have in the household. A senstational car which looks immaculate inside and out despite mileage.
