Fuel gauge. Help
Discussion
Any idea which wire is supposed to be the 12 volt supply to the gauge? And what the others do?
I'm not to hot on electrics so any advice will be appreciated. All the other gauges are fine. But the fuel is dead, inc the low level light.
Should there be 12v to any of the wires at the tank end?
This is for a Chimaera but I think (hope!) they are the same.
If any one has a wireing diagram showing what wire does what that would be a great help.

Hi Pete,
I take it you have two wires at the tank end, black and a green/black.
The black will be chassis earth, and green/black the return to the gauge via some multi pin connectors along the way.
The tank sender varies the earth return to the gauge, so normally no +volts present there, the +volts would be to the connection on other side of the fuel gauge.
If you ground out the green/black wire to earth with the ignition on, guage should respond if you have +volts present, if it does not then you have either no +volts to the gauge, or an open open circuit tank sender.Use a basic meter to check if you have one to hand.
Have you still got a fully functioning standard alarm/immobiliser? Remember that the standard security is normally interconnected to the fuel guage.
Based on experience with a precat Griff, and reference to a part diagram.
Good luck with it,
Steve

Steve,
Thanks for that. I will try grounding the wire on the tank.
As for the alarm. It's a laserline unit. It's been on the car since I've had it. The gauge just packed up one day. The very limited fiddling i've done shows that at least one wire, Green or green with black stripe had 12v with the ign on.
