Hi All

My r32 is for sale in the for sale section, looking for a tdi etc but unsure which one to get (140 or 170)

is there a big diff between the 1.9 and 2.0 ?

looking for good motorway cruise speeds and great fuel range etc (45-50 mpg)

no need for "need for speed" as i will be looking to get a weekend toy to cover that

cheers

Nice looking R32 !!! Why you selling? I am thinking of chopping in my diesel merc against one (or a GTi).

i'm doing 33k miles a year so fuel is costing me £6000 plus a year

would like another Porsche for the weekends cant really afford a "daily super car" as well

Without doubt the r32 is the best all round car i have ever owned (i have had two 997 s , boxster s and a nsx to name a few) so now looking to get a £10k daily runner (great fuel economy) and a £30k - £40k garage queen (993 or another nsx etc) The r32 as good as it is just seems to fall between the two

FWIW, I run an A4 TDi (53 plate) with 156K on the clock. It's obviously the 1.9 model at that age. I believe the 2.0 is a smoother engine but people I know with them (even the 140bhp model) seem to think the 1.9 is more economical, so I suppose it depends what you're primary requirement is.

Forgot to mention, on mixed driving I can get mid 40s easily - including plenty of overtaking on A/B roads - and have had up to 52mpg on light throttle long journeys with no weight in the car. And that is supposedly on a 'tired' engine.

The 1.9 is certainly more economical.
I know so many people who have Golf GT TDI 130's & 150's who ALWAYS get 55-58mpg and its brim to brim method. Longer runs easily see them into the mid 60's. Also go for a £4-5k one on a 52-53 reg plate as youll get the higher ratio 6th giving you a few more MPG i.e. 70mph = 1,800rpm mmmm silence and gutsy

The 1.9 is good but lots of these tales of mpg getting into the mid-60s is not even close to my experience. Unless these people's driving style is dictated purely to achieve absolute maximium economy.

My wife used to have a 130tdi golf and it averaged about 45mpg. On a long run got about 50mpg from it. Which I thought was great.

But mid-60's?? Maybe I guess. At 56mph. For the whole journey. If you didn't fall asleep from boredom first.

Just to edit, one of our reps has a Mk4 GT 150 tdi and is averaging 41.6mpg over time.

I used to drive 300 miles each way on one trip a month and on the M ways which was a good 80% of itthat was doing 70mph all the way with 3 adults and luggage, the other 20% was on rural Welsh B raods up the mountains and again doing 60mph all the way.

I did notice that certain brands of fuel gave better results in fact we always used the cheapest possible but found that Tesco in certain areas gave a lower MPG while in others higher and that was always the case.

I had to totally change my dirving style to suit the TDI though and rode the torque rather than rev it, most times I changed up at 2,200rpm to tak me smack back into the peak torque every time. I tend to drive smoothly and carry speed around corners. The front tyres last a min 40k with me.

I even recall once we took a mattress on top of the roof box - 4 adults and full boot and full roof box and the plastic sheeting acted like a baloon - and I was disappointed to see 46mpg on that run (brim to brim) again always full motorway speeds at all times. sometimes maybe a little more.
I found that I enjoyed on the long runs to challenge to beat the mpg get it higher and higher without sacrificing any speed.
