Has anyone successfully managed to use an LS7 without the catalysts in a kit, or is that going to be a complete no no with the current legislation?

If you can prove the engine was built before 1993 (I think), then you don't need a cat.

So, 2nd hand engine from a car before this time should suffice.

I have a new unbuilt rover 4.6 without any numbers, it's a cross bolted block, so, obviously I don't want to fanny around with cats, and I am wondering about the best course of action when it comes to the SVA.

I think you may get your nuts squeezed...

You may be better off putting an engine in the car which you can determine the origin and age of. Pass SVA then swap it out.

John, you must have been reading my mind, as I have one or two older V8's I could use, but it's not clear just what you can change,ie, engine size, and how, on an SVA'd vehicle

I went from CEC to BEC post sva, just sent log book off with engine change details, because it also involved a tax change class I had to supply written proof the new engine was installed and running, had it not been a tax class change then I guess just sending log book would have sufficed ?

I think the rules for normal cars then apply - points system.

However, they may get suspicious if you do it too soon after the SVA - it might be better to leave it a year or so before doing it ("it blew up, guv", rather than "I didn't want to use a cat&quotwink.

I swapped out my RV8 for an LS1 about 3 years after SVA and emmissions requirements are taken from the original SVA paperwork (in my case visible smoke only). However, CATs will make next to bugger all HP difference on the LS7 (that you or I would notice) so why risk it? or is it a case of space?

space mainly.

Although I started a similar thread on advice in the ultima section because they tend to use this engine a lot

Intersetingly there is a link there to a ridiculously expence GT40, where you can see the cats in place.

GD use the CATs in their T70 which is reasonably tight for space.
