Anyone read today's FT????

Theres an article in it about Porsche. Not a road test, but a chat with the Group Chief Executive.

Quote:

...But before he approaches the owners with a fourth model, Porsche will relaunch the Boxster and 911 models, starting next year, and add new high-margin 911 versions. For example, the specially produced 911 GT3, of which Porsche will build up to 300 units at a retail price of €125,000, earns Porsche an operating profit of €50,000 per car.

How much????????????

In Porsche's defence there's an element of blurry accounting here. Operating Profit is not bottom line profit, but is before some business overheads. So, is the operating profit enough to cover those overheads and make a net profit ? The answer on recent years performance would appear to be 'yes' but it can be close. It would be interesting to know the equivalent number for the mainstream models.

I wonder what the operating profit is on parts?
Makes you wonder what the cost of building a GT3 would be if you ordered the whole car as spares. Granted that more hands have to handle the parts rather than just a mechanic, but I think it could cost a lot more than $500,000 for one.
