This happened a few times with the Monaro but never on the VXR8. The problem has been well documented on here with many theories being offered but I don't think anyone has the definitive answer. (including the dealers) !!!
If mine only went to 3/4 on a total fill it would be back to the dealers till it was fixed! "oh sorry sir we dont know whats causing it" is not something Id accept on a 30k plus car!Id suggest the slide reader is playing up inside the tank and giving variable resistance readings.. IMO anyhow as its a pretty simple design for all senders.
I have small boot CV8 with filler high up on the shoulder of the wing. No problem getting a full tank, every time.
Technique I found is once the fuel is flowing, don't let go of the nozzle trigger until the auto click-off from the nozzle, then top off with 1 or 2 more litres.
If I let go of the trigger part way through the fill, I cannot get a full tank.
