Posted this on the General TVR and General Lotus forums, however nobody has posted on Gen Lotus since Thursday!
Hello Guys
I currently own a Lotus Elan SE Turbo and it has been the greatest car i have ever owned. Practically faultless for 3.5 years. However it is time to upgrade.
I was considering a Tuscan for a long time because they are stunning but that S6 seems a little too troublesome right now. Also my parents are moving to Spain so i am lookign at a car that will last the distance and not overheat or be too uncomfortable. The choices i have are:
TVR Griffith - Convertible, 2nd best looking TVR there is including the newer models. Drove one a little while back and wasn't impressed with the impossible to move gearshift, however this might have been this one car?
TVR Cerbera - Hardtop so A/C for Spain. Very distinctive looking car, very quick and a little more space.
Lotus Elise S2 - Opentop, not very comfortable but fun to drive. Might manage to get my laptop in it but not sure about a weeks luggage.
Lotus S4s - Sunroof and A/C. Powerful car and handles beautifuly, just about enough luggage space, however i am worried about reliabilty even more so than the TVR's.
I know this is on the TVR forum so i expect a bit of bias.
Cheers

Well I would have the Griffith or the S4s, I have driven both and the S4s would make the best long distance drive while the Griffith is more Sportscar than Supercar (a bloody fast one mind you!). The reliablity is good on the S4s as long as the PO has done FSH and some mods. Running costs are a little higher on the S4s but it will certainly be cheaper than the Cerbera. Most supercars would be very hard pressed to keep up with a well driven S4s, this car is recognised as being the best of the Esprits (excluding the Sport 300).
I personally would not have a Cerbera but I respect it, it is a awesome car, I have seen too many with too many problems. It may run with only a few problems on the other hand it may not.
Other cars for your purpose 911 or NSX, both reliable and fast (not as fast as the others mind) and better suited to the job in hand.
Quite a few of the Americans have S4s and they be able to guide you better, they will be up in a hour or so

Cheers guys, didn't think there were any Lotus guys awake today (or maybe you actually have some work to do)
I do like the S4s, i think it is between the Griff and S4s. Then it comes down to value, i have kind of got used to the idea of the lower cost car so i can buy some other bits and bobs, but this could easily change!
