Cheap Alfa GTV or 166
Discussion
OK so had a number of different Alfa's through the 90's...2x155 and 2xGTV...For the last 8 years I've had a number of Lotus but have decided to just use the Lotus at weekends, sunnydays and track days so need a cheap car for work (Only do around 6 miles a day)....Am I asking for trouble looking at a 166 or GTV TS for between £1500-£2200. I could not believe how cheaply you can buy these fantastic cars now. I heading towards a GTV more than 166 as I love the shape which for me hasn't dated one bit.
So any thoughts, advice, what to look out for at this price would be gratefull.

Cheers Batty...agree with V6. Had a S plate V6 GTV and the sound was stunning.
i have an s reg v6, and is one of the best sounding cars this side of a 355/360cs.i'd love a 166, but think it would be horrendous to keep in fuel.
the ts might be a little more enjoyable.

best of both worlds?

At this sort of money I'm not expecting to get a perfect example but I do want one thats been looked after.
From what I remeber the V6 GTV sounded awesome and what a pretty shape, how can something that looks so good be so cheap...I will say that I had a Maserati 3200gt a few years ago and that sounded a bit more sexy than the GTV...both great though.

As above....if you do buy one, buy the lowest mileage car with the greatest amount of work done.
On the GTV V6 check for:-
Cambelt changed (every 5 years or 72k whichever comes first)£500-750
Oil Cooler and associated pipes replaced (£200-300)
Clutch Slip £500-700
Key Code not going out
Red/brown master key (over a thousand for a new key from what i've heard)
Rear Bushes (these are rose jointed on the V6 and less prone to wear)
Air Flow Meter £150 ish
Just be careful, there are lots of abused examples out there
