Firstly, Thanks for running such an informative and polite forum !

I was lucky enough to buy an '00 XJR here in the USofA a few months ago and can confirm everything the other owners on this forum have said to be true, these cars are an absolute blast ! I was raised in Scotland and worked in a garage there, the owner of which was a Jaguar fan himself, so I kind of grew up around Jaguars, so it's quite special to be able to finally get my own. It's also fortunate to have it in a country where petrol/gas prices are still relatively cheap (At least to what I'm used to anyway)

The cars seem to be relatively unknown here in the US. For the price I paid for mine I would have been getting a 2 or 3 year older "equivalent" BMW7 or MercS (I know there is no such thing as equivalent to a Jag!)

I have 3 questions about the car that I hope I'll be able to get help with here :

1) The electric sunroof works both for slide and tilt.... Slide is done with one touch operation, however, when either trying to close again from being slid fully open, or from being tilted, I have to kind of guess where the roof is and let go of the button when I think it's flush with the roofline. If I overshoot it, it's sunken under the roofline and on it's way to going into slide mode again. I am getting better at it :-) but I was kind of surprised it was this manual. I read the owners booklet and it doesn't give any clues as to whether my operation is abnormal or not

2) When I switch the aircon on, there is a slight noise associated with its operation. It's not a horrible noise, just noticable (I guess as the rest of the car is generally very quiet). The aircon works great and is ice cold, just the compressor is a little noisy --> Is this a sign of worse things to come ? or it's normal for the model ?

3) Does the XJR come with CATS suspension by default or was it an option ? I have thrown the car around once or twice (for experimental purposes of course!) and the handling on it is unbelievable for such a large heavy car. It corners pretty much flat. If the CATS system is an option, is there an easy way to tell if my car has it or not ?

Welcome to PH. Visit the Pie and Piston if you think we are all polite on here.

Not sure about the first two points - you're just a bit too far away for me to have a look and be able to offer any suggestions - but if your car has CATS suspension there will be an electrical connector on the top of the front shock absorber visible inside the engine bay.

We pay over $120 yikes a tankfull for petrol in the UK...

Hi,

1. My sunroof used to fully close (from fully open/slid back) with one button press as well (just like for opening it). It was only when I wanted to close it from the tilt position that I needed to hold the button, but then it would stop when fully closed and I could release the button, it wouldn't overshoot. So it sounds like yours isn't working quite like it should.

2. Not sure about the noise you hear, mine was pretty normal, i.e. all you really hear is the flow of air, varying in intensity depending on how high you've got it.

3. As far as I know, all X308 XJRs came with CATS suspension as standard. I'm 99% sure of that. I think you can tell by looking for electrical wires coming out of the tops of front suspension under the bonnet (although I never looked myself). Ok, just looked at some pictures of my car's engine bay, and I think what you're looking for are two black "caps" on top of the suspension above each wheel, with some wires going into them. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone here will correct me.

Enjoy your car! smile
