E34 electric windows / central locking problem

The electric window and central locking have packed up on the passenger door only.
Seeing as both have failed simultaneously I thought the wiring plug might have detached itself but if I press the window button I can hear what sounds like a solenoid click in the door.
I can't even get the door trim off to have a proper look and poke around as there don't seem to be any screws or clips holding it on.
I wish Haynes did a manual for these but it seems that for some reason the E34 never got one.
Can anyone shed some light on how to get the door panel off and wether this is a common problem?
