I've been on a public order course with work today and some trainee RAF photographers were there snapping us kicking doors in and running about in all our kit.

Has anyone here ever served in the RAF as a photographer?. They had some lovely kit....was paying more attention to them and what they were doing than the baton rounds that were being fired at me!. Best bit is, as a thank you the students send the best pics on a CD back to the training centre that will get filtered back to us as a thankyou.

Lucky people, I can imagine they get some good subject matter to shoot with the 2 Nikon D200's and huge selection of lenses they walk about with strapped all over themselves!.

Very cool,..tomorrow should be good,.....petrol bombs!.

The Nikon national accounts department has done well - the police have D200s as well. However you have to wonder whether they're really needed to photograph crashed cars - I'm sure a compact would do the job just as well.

Good point, we use compacts for taking snaps of assault victims.

SOCO do bulb exposures on night time RTC's when they have to photograph the scene etc. I've seen the shots with a big highviz yellow line walking across it smile

They've been watching too much CSI/Miami/NY/NCIS. Nikon would appear to have done a deal...

...I think it may be to do with some features wherein the images are checksummed in-camera and therefore it is not possible to fiddle with them without this being detectable. This would allow the digital images to be evidentiary presumably. Nikon also provide for GPS location stamping of images - this coupled with tamper-inhibiting features may be why Government buys Nikon kit?

I didn't know about the first bit but I'm sure there's software that detects if an image has been Photoshopped. When you have traffic wardens going round taking photos of cars on yellow lines (eg Colchester) you can see why this is important. Or for any legal evidence in fact.

Have you recovered yet?

I've photographed some of our dogs in training, but yet to get an invite to the public order stuff, have seen some great shots of the petrol bombers at one of our forces night training sessions. Thank god for disused air bases smile

Yep, I'm OK!.

Got a face full of BCF which is never nice and it was boiling hot in full code one as usual but thats the nature of the beast!.

Had a chat with a few of the photographers and got a peak at a few shots on camera which looked great. They all seemed to love snapping us on fire and running about, we were in a huge cold war style hanger with the doors closed so it was really low light in there, you could only see where we were going by the light off the burning petrol.

Even got to have a go with a D200 for a few minutes over our pie and chip lunch, nice bit of kit!.

Correct answer was 'yes' and a defiant look between the eyes.
