Convoy from South East to Chatsworth on SUNDAY morning
Discussion
How many people are going to be planning a trip up to Chatsworth house from the South East early on Sunday morning?
I am wanting to go up early sunday because that time of day should mean a lovely drive up some of the back roads.
If we could put names down then we could organise some kind of run up there?
I have never organised something liek this so may have to pass it over to one of the more 'experienced' members.

Having organised a few such convoys, may I suggest that you really need to provide more detail in order to attract some players.
They need to know where in the "South East" you plan on meeting and starting the drive and if possible roughly your intended route if not by the M1. They also need to know what you mean by "early".
Nick.

Understood Nick.
In all honesty though I was not suggesting organising a convoy myself but was really wondering if there was already a group going up from somewhere in s.e. london, kent, sussex or surrey that I could tag along too.
I guess I could organise one but dont want to go to all the trouble of sorting routes, RV's etc when no one is really interested, and as such it would be good to gauge interest first.
In terms of early I was thinking about getting up there for about 0930 - 1000hrs so leaving time would be probably be 4 hours before that?

I don't think it'll take you 4 hours, unless you stick to B roads all the way.
From the bottom of the M1 using the M1 all the way, it's 145 miles, about 2 hrs, 25 minutes. Avoiding the M1 and using the A1 from a similar southerly point it's 170 miles, just under 3 hours.
I'll probably be using M1 going up in the morning and maybe the A1/B roads combo coming back. I just think a 4 hour drive each end of the event is too much. I reckon you should choose one of these routes Mark or an alternate but less than 4 hours.
I plan on leaving about 8:30 to get there 11:00ish so probably a bit late for your plans. But hopefully see you there! Nick.

I was thinking of taking B roads up there when they are quiet and then just cruise back on the m-way coming home.
If we cant get into the place until 11 then obviously we can leave later.
The B-roads up there are not my usuall hooning ground but by the weekend I will get a couple of possible routes sorted, one using some m-way and some b-roads and another pure b-road route.
I will try and find roads that are NSL and go through a minimal amount of urban areas.

Great - I'll look out for what you come up with. Nick.If we cant get into the place until 11 then obviously we can leave later.

I have spent the morning looking at possible route scenarios and to get just a few good roads in it will probably add about 75 miles to the journey, thus making it a 250+ mile trip. The location of Chatsworth (north west) means you have to go through a lot of urban areas if you are not using M-way which defeats the point of it.
What the girlfriend and I have decided to do is take monday off and explore some of the peak district roads instead.
Having said that is anyone interested in driving in convoy up the M1 maybe meeting up at the roundabout where the M1 starts at Brent Cross or maybe the Ace Cafe at say 8.30?

My small suggested amendment would be to make, say, Newport Pagnall services M1 Northbound, your meeting place. Good open car park to meet, loos and it would make it posible for those starting a little further north than The Ace to join in. It's about 50 miles / 45 minutes from The ACE and of course anyone coming from anywhere in North London, Herts, Beds (Milton Keynes etc) will be able to stop without any diversion.
It's just over 100 miles to convoy (1hr. 40mins) to Chatsworth House from there so 09:15 (to leave at 09:30) at Newport Pagnall would probbly be a good time.
Having said all this, I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to come as I'm leaving for 4 weeks the following morning so it all depends on how organised I am!! Neverthess, I hope you don't mind me sticking my nose into your thread with these suggestions!!

Having done the journey to Chatsworth from Surrey about 100 times I would not recommend the M1. Chances are it will take ages (particularly on the way back).
I would recommend M40, A43, M1. Would allow min 3 hrs from start of M40.
Are you going Gaz? I would recommend M40, A43, M1. Would allow min 3 hrs from start of M40.
I have never driven the M1 so dont know what its like. Do you think it will be that bad on sunday morning?

I think it's bad around Luton due to roadworks, also somewhere in Notts has road works a a 50mph SPECS policed section. Traffic should be OK though (except for a good number of TVRs...)Gazzab said:

That all depends on where you live/start from. Certainly using the M40 then headding cross country to the M1 would have made a lot of sense coming from Surrey as you did.I would recommend M40, A43, M1. Would allow min 3 hrs from start of M40.
Living 10 minutes from J.5 of the M1 thats the way I'm going. It usually moves through the Luton roadworks quite well and no reason to expect otherwise earlish on a Sunday morning in April. Nick.
