Digital SLR buying advice

[Wheelrepairit]

Hi everyone, after some quick advice as always.

Looking for a SLR for my brother and his wife, new parents, as a present for them.

Looking to pay up to £500

Like the look of the new sony 200 thingy, seem to have spent the last week of evenings looking at review sites and am getting abit confused.

Any help much appriciated, thank you.

Nikon D60 with 18-55 lens. £460.

Cracking camera.

To be honest, anything Canon or Nikon. Some of the other D-SLR's are great but eBay etc is full of Canon and Nikon gear, and it'll be years (if ever) that there's a good number of cheap old Sony lens etc to be had secondhand.

Thanks folks, gives me some idea of where to look and for what make.

Happy days
