Anybody here got a seriously high-mileage Toyota? 200,000 miles or more (to the moon but not necessarily back)
I ask because the Toyota customer mag is looking to do a feature and photoshoot soonish. Any model, any age.
Ta very much, MM

Have you tried TOC (Toyota Owners Club)?

If not there, then you could work your way through the marques one by one......but I don't remember off hand anyone on the Celica Club who has.

Thanks for the ideas - Toyota owners awoke to a message on the main club board, so next up are the individual clubs.

Thanks Gaz - I'll try the UK Supra clubs (it's a UK-based photoshoot). The Celicas seem to last for mega mileages too, if anyone's got one

Probably not suitable, but there was an old Carina E being used as a taxi in my locality with 838000 miles on it, was shared between 3 drivers and worked 24 x 7. Was in it a couple of times and was told never needed more than regualar servicing and consumables. Incredible

That would be perfect. You don't know the name of the taxi firm he works for by any chance?

When I experience my own personal credit crunch, it'll be a Carina E I'll buy with my last £300. £280 for the car and £20 to valet out the kebab stains.

Do you need some oil for your suspension biggrin I've got a can of the rare stuff going spare if you want it!
Hi Nick, is that km or miles?
I don't know actually. The car was imported some years ago, and everything was converted to UK & imperial. I guess it's a mixture of both.
I probably do. I'haven't seen any leaks, or needed to top up, but I'm sure it's time.

Perhaps more urgently, I think it needs re-gassing, as the ride is pretty bouncy, especially with four people on board. Do people here generally recommend Smiffies Soarer Sanctuary for this?

Cheers, Nick

I don't meet the 200K+ criteria, though I used to own a 1989 2.5 V6 Camry that had 147K on the clock when I sold it. My wife currently has a 1992 Previa with 133K on the clock. It is without doubt one of the best things we've ever bought. It has just taken us on a long weekend break in Sherwood Forest; 6 people + dog + mountain of luggage, 580 miles in 4 days, cruising at 80-90. In the 8 years that we've owned it, it has been utterly dependable and doesn't burn any oil. I've seen a report of a Previa in the USA with 930K miles. All the owner said was that you need to replace the auto gearbox about every 250K. I hope ours goes on for a considerable time yet, as there is no direct replacement available. There currently isn't a people carrier on the market that seats 8 people AND carries plenty of luggage, and I think Toyota really messed up with the new shape Previa; they had a unique product, and threw it away.

I have a MK1 MR2 in East Sussex that is currently on 199,300 odd miles, original engine and gearbox.

Still used weekly / daily and attends major events.

Available for photoshoot if you want it.

Hey there Tony, I moved fairly recently so spend most of my life doing DIY and things like that. Will be up to a Guildford Meet in May but am off on Holiday on SUnday for two weeks so will sort it for return, all nice and tanned!
