Today I ordered a sink and a tap online. I knew exactly what I wanted and the best price for each (£236 and £169 respectively). www.titanic-sinks.co.uk had the sink for £236 so I went to see what they did the tap for. But I still had 236 in my mind, so when I saw 208 I thought 'wow, that's cheap' and proceeded to check out.

When I printed off the invoice I then saw to my horror that I'd paid £208 for the tap, which I had found elsewhere for £169! banghead

My fault for not thinking hard enough. I've left a message on their accursed 0871 number and sent two e-mails, one direct and one via their website, asking if I can cancel the tap part of the order. No reply yet.

I paid by credit card. Can I do anything more, or do I have to accept the tap at £208?

You can return it for refund under the Distance Selling Regulations.

Read the Terms and Conditions on the website you bought from, they outline the returns procedure.

Seven days to inform them you're exercising your right to return the item and then return it.

Thanks folks.

The fear then is that I'll get lumbered with the carriage, which for a kitchen sink is going to be most of the difference frown

I'll chase them up tomorrow and hopefully they'll be humane about it.

I thought it was the tap that you didn't want?

You may need to get somewhat heavy handed to force the supplier to comply with the letter of the law, but you are entitled to a refund of the delivery charges too - unless the contract with the supplier expressly says you are responsible for return shipping if you cancel.

See here:

You'd need to check their T&C's.

However, since you immediately tried to cancel the order that may have an impact too.

I know, I really have lost the plot on this one haven't I! Anyway, good news, I got an e-mail from them today (worryingly a hotmail address!) saying they'll take the tap off the order. Accordingly I've ordered it elsewhere and Simpo is up £39 smile
