I recently stopped a Ford Ka doing 96mph on the M1 Motorway.
Whats wrong with that i hear you say!

Problem was that at the time it was on the back of a 2-axle single car trailer which was being pulled by a 4X4.

To make matters worse, the driver of the 4X4 was Disqualified from Driving.

Just another example of a Trafpol doing the job better than a Speed camera.

Dunno what it is with drivers recently but I've seen two trailers in the last couple of weeks travelling at 90+ in the outside lane. One was a 3 series towing a Z3 (LMAO at the irony) and the other an overladen volvo full of kids and holiday tat.

Ferkin idiots.

Its amazing isn't it....

Some idjeet managed to overturn a caravan on the A31 and on A303 recently. To do that you've got to swerve last minute on a dodgy overtake I reckon - so what are they doing overtaking? They're supposed to be at 50MPH in the inside lane damnit...

Fat Audi 80, I thought I would be told off for using the word w*nker so I used instead.

Sorry if it made you feel while having your lunch.

They don't require much of a swerve: I saw one in France on the autoroute a few years ago. The driver made as if to overtake, but abandoned the manoeuvre almost as soon as he started. The caravan began to swing, at first ever so slightly, but the swing increased in amplitude each time, until it tipped over, the towbar dug into the road and the caravan flipped straight in front of us. Amazingly on a moderately busy motorway, everyone managed to avoid it.

You should have been on the M56 on saturday about 5pm

Some numbnut pulling a trailer at +70mph with a heavily loaded 4x4 + roofrack (high centre of gravity), on the phone!()

of course he was weaving all over the road as the wind picked up (just prior to the torrential rain storms we had the wind got very blowy) but still kept the phone clamped to his ear - could the wife sitting next to him not have taken the call FGS???

As the girlfriend was driving me, i took the chance to gesticulate my opinion of him....

If i see someone do that again, if i video it and send it to you, can you book him later??? just a thought...

Before this year I had never seen a speeding trailer.
WTF is going on, they are all over the place.
In all senses of the phrase.

I reckon standards are well down all over. Send more BiB cos people are dying out there.

I recall sitting at about 75mph on the M4 and being overtaken by a Land Cruiser.

Fair enough. Being overtaken by the 24 foot boat it was towing was slightly more concerning.

When I worked in Belgium my mate and I asked for a hire car, we got a Ford Ka so we decided to have a competition to see who could get the Vmax out of it. My mate won only cos I insisted he didn't lift off the throttle after getting a nice long downhill run with a tailwind. Speedo reading 185 KPH....don't try this at home...must add this was a private road of course

Now I guess I'll upset you all.
I tow my Mini Cooper 'S' historic rally car on my Brian James 4 wheel trailer behind my BMW 728i at up to 75 mph. The trailer is totally stable, has 40" wheel centres, brakes on all 4 wheels and new 185x70 radials. I reckon the trailer has better roadholding than most average cars as it's very wide. It has better stopping power than a big artic.
Caravans are a different matter and the usual reason for them rolling is because they have been passed or were passing another large vehicle and the aerodynamic effects caused an uncontrollable swing. Usually caravans only have 2 wheels, or 4 that are too close together and their C.G.'s are too high.
Until a relatively short while ago, my trailer was legal at 70 on d/c's and m'ways. (non-close coupled 4 wheel trailer with a min of 39" wheel centres, brakes on all wheels and no more than 75% of towing vehicle kerb weight = speed limit of towing vehicle, or something like that). Don't criticise safe towing of flatbed trailers with caravanning stupidity. The difficult bit is reversing!
However, there should be an extra driving test for towing with an endorsement on ones licence to permit it.
